WOW YOU ARE KILLING ME P-JAY ..LET ME LOOK THIS THING UP MAYBE I CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH THIS QUESTION ,,BUT NO PROMISES,,
25 on each side but everything was kept in respect never touching each other or dancing on the side of your opponent it was whether you dance in front of your opponent or switch sides but never grabing or touching always keeping your distance but the most important thing was that we live it to show it and that in the end we loved what we did and share it down without copy writing a dance created in the hood of NEW YORK CITY ALL BOROUGH !
How did I do P-JAY !

it's a good point because different people have different opinion about this dance but seem to stick to there not really reaching out out to all the people that were involve and how they did it in there time ..for example Bushwick has there own style and there Williamsburgh , also Park Slope and than there's the Bronx and Manhattan Queens ( ridgewood) and of cause we can't forget EAST NEW YORK which also has there own style..is that were you are from mr . P-jay tell a little about the EAST NEW YORK STYLE and the life during the rocking days !!

East New York -
11-08-2007, 10:52 AM
First I wanna say that I was the moderator for this forum but had to attend to business, as well as, the creation of the Dynasty site and forum, which took all of my time. It's cool to see that you and other brothers held things down in my absence. I'm sure many will tell you how HARD it was to teach and explain the truth of Rocking on these forums just a few years back! It's great to see how cats got their knowledge up so we can have peaceful and intelligent discussions.
Well as you know, many Rockers from other hoods didn't come to ENY to dance... cuz it was hard not to get into beef and get jumped or worse. ENY was nortorious for it's murderous past! OG Lil Dave will tell you how it was back in the day. They had $.50 basement jams where the original dancers [Rockers] used to dance but you always had to watch out for the gangs - especially the Crazy Homicides. RC will tell you how a Junior Dynasty member was killed after a Rock contest in ENY. Not to talk about negativity but it's important to touch on it, so cats can see how it was as compared to today... where you have Bboys from all over the world come to NYC and travel to every hood safe and sound. TRUST ME, that woulda been impossible back in the 70's/80's. However, you did have successful contests during the 70's in ENY. Places like the Showboat held Freestyle and Rock contest, Highland Park "Lowland", was a spot we always danced. You had Eclipse Roller Disco, where we never wore skates, LOL, cuz we were too busy Rocking! Also, Saint Michael's was a huge gym where many Rockers used to battle. You had OG's from Van Siclen that Lil Dave used to chill and dance with. You had crews such as the East New York Rockers, Rock With Scorpio, Grant Crew, Rock City Crew and even many Outlaws from different gangs used to Rock. ENY has it's place in Rocking history and since Bushwick is right next door, you had cats that went to FK Lane, ENY Tech or Bushwick High Schools together, so the styles were very similar.
Peace and respect to all the ENY OG's and the Rocking family worldwide!

WOW ..HEY P-JAY THANKS FOR THAT KNOWLEDGE..
But yeah you are right the showboat was an awesome place to go infact I did join a couple of freestyle contest there with my partner Snoopy which three years later we went on our tour that started in rome from rome to Italy from Italy to france from france to Venezuella from Venezuella to Brazil from brazil to Santo domingo and back to the United States but I would have to give all this credit to the 1970's where I got into rocking and learned to love this dance... and man you are soooooooo right about todays bboy just visiting these neighborhood without having no problem..I remember when the Dynamic Breakers came to Bushwick to pay the crew Street Justice / Touch of rock a visit infact it was the first time I met Spider and the rest of the crew we pratice together and the following week we enter the big break dance contest we the crew STREET Justice / Touch Of Rock did a 5 man routine which I will soon post it on you tube and Dynamic did there thing I remember Paco from KTU hosted it ! But anyway when the crew Dynamic breakers came around they flashed these huge Dynamic chain.. and the crew HBO ( Home boys only ) From stockolm and central started beef with them but thanks to my boy CA (Tiger) From touch of rock that were really good friend with them cats everythign went smooth and the Dynamic breakers did there thing at this block party in Himrod and Central ... But like you said senor P-JAY Rocking back in the days was not a walk in the park infact you could'nt walk in the park without somebody wanting your sneakers or sheepskin... freaking crazy,,,oh well enough for now need to save some for P-JAYS respond...
HEY P-JAY WHERE DID EVERYONE GO ... OR MAYBE THEY ARE JUST SITTING BACK SMOKING UP ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE,, LOL LOL ..
HOLLA SENOR P-JAY !

Smoked??? Yeah... I think they are "high" on what's being dropped, hehe.
HBO??? Yeah... we had some members in ENY. My homegirl was the Prez of Home Girls Only and a damn good dancer as well!
Yeah, I wish I was one of those cats who took flicks or footage of back in the day... but I didn't ... I was living in the moment. I always thought things would always be the way they were at the time. Getting high, bombing, dancing, doing wild shit etc. etc.
Anyways, I remember the time we did one of our best shows at St. Michaels in ENY 1983. It's the time after the film Delivery Boys, when we hooked-up with Incredible Breakers, Dynamic and Incredible Body Mechanics. It was Float, Chino, Odyssey, Kenji aka Python, along with our crew Bboys Going Wild, Nasty With Rock, Majestic Dancers and other independent dancers. We killed that shit... especially the Breakin routine with Chino and Odyssey and the Poppin routine with Kenji and my boy Elf - shit was fire!
Damn good times!

Mad respect P-jay to them names...
dam them girls had much power they would stand up to you like they had a D* and not to mention if you mess with them you were also messing with the boys also.. I remember the early years of my Bushwick time when I came to the neighborhood and I met up with this cat by the name of Lefty he was part of the sex boys and he intruduced me to some of the brother clubs from the young kings and I became a member of that gang the young kings ..than A couple of month later I went to the south side where I came from when I moved to Buishwick and when I visit my boy which was consider my best friend back in the days when I was a young biker ...and while I was vissitng him I opened up to him and told him that I was a member of the young kings in bushwick ..he left me alone in his room listen to music I remeber the song I was listening to KUNG FU FIGHTING and he went outside and told the memeber s of his gang that he had a young king in his house..he than call me outside from the hall way and when I went outside there were like 50 heads out there waiting to take a shot at me ... I thank God for having the uncle of my friend well so call friend there who came to my rescue after that I never again went to the south side again ...up untill I got into rocking and also started dj three years later and dj at this school yard on keap st. and south 2nd man my gang days were a waste of my life I mean many crazy memories I saw people get thrown from roof top , I saw girls getting rape in the basement club , I saw cats getting shot right in the sight of my eyes.. and I saw good friends of mine being killed by close friends of mine... that today I still can see flash back when ever I go to New York and visit them spots..
And you know P-JAY to answer your question what is up-rocking ?
Well up-rocking is the dance that save my life I would have to say that rocking was my life saver and I'm talking a bout a candy man I'm talking reality getting into the dance rock took me away from the nonsence that I was doing out there when young and stupid.. and I'm not saying that we didn't come across some beef during my rocking years because man we did but them beef were beef that I could avoid by not attending place that didn't like our crew or were jelous of our crew so I kind of pretty much did that stiood away from places that I knew it would bring problem ..like EAST NEW YORK ! lol lol .them cats were crazy and you are the living proof...lol lol lmao .. just kidding my brother .. but yeah the memories of my gang days I won't want to live it again but the memories of my rocking days I would live it in a heart beat ,, except the part of the headaches of coming across beef especially when you steped out of your neightborhood ..But hey it came with the Territory .. But you see it is why today I love the dance and love to do it but I want to do it in a peacefull way I want to put all of that crap of beef behind and all the hate and gossip way behind because I have a family to look out for and hate and beef would be the last thing I would want to get out of this ,,, I want to touch base with all crews and anyone that's a part of this dance that I had share so many memories ..

JODER....
You guys are dropping bombs in here, looks like bagdad!!!! Damn i love the stories, it sounds like alot of fun and fear all wrapped up together! NY sounds like a place where you could have the greatest of times one day and the worst day ever the next. Or maybe both in one day. I know you guys were young too, so you probably didn´t value understand life´s worth as much back then? Getting into it with somebody or being chased out a neighborhood was just a part of life. All the contests, the dancing and i think one thing that you guys always leave out of the stories is the LADIES!!! Cause you know if you can dance, the ladies love YA!!!!!
Sitting out here in spain at the local internet cafe reading these stories is really helping get by!! Ain´t no rockers out here! or at least not in Madrid! I have been teaching alot of people about rock and Brooklyn hip hop history in general. Everyone out here has a real hunger for the knowledge, it is refreshing cause i think alot of american bboys take all this for granted, not all but alot. Some of the guys out here already been out to the BK and linked up with breakeasy... So they have some idea of what the deal is. I haven´t really been rocking much mostly just working on my freestyle and hitting some jerks ever no and then. I had a whole hungerian crew buggin out on the rock dance a few days back. They are in town performing for the circus and they seen me dancing and was like "Is this some special american style"? hahahahha i told them its a special BROOKLYN style! they loved it!.....Thanks for everything guys... Keep on beating the knowledge into these kids heads(myself included)!! We need all we can get...
Hasta luego Amigos!!!!!,
Si le hablen con Amigorock le doy saludos......Gracias

Check you out with all the Spanish and what not! LOL... good to hear that you're doin your thang out there brother!
Funny you ask where the ladies play their part in all this. So here's a true story that took place back in '86 - YES... Rocking with drama in 1986!
I was in high school and dating this Italian girl from Woodhaven, Queens. Now if you know anything about back then, then you know that NO Puerto Rican is suppose to date NO Italian! More importantly, even though ENY was next door to Woodhaven, you didn't cross the border unless you wanted to get chased and possibly beat down by at least 20-30 Guidos... no lie. It's was crazy, cuz you have Franklin K. Lane, which is the biggest high school in all NYC and it sits on the border between ENY, Brooklyn and Woodhaven, Queens. So you had all races from Brooklyn and Queens stuffed together... need I say more? Then you had Woodhaven movie theater, which is where all us ENY heads used to go a see flicks. So you can imagine all the beef that went on and some very serious - I can go on for days. Anyhoo, back to the story. I met my girl at the time at a party of a mutual friend and we hit it off. Off the bat her folks didn't like her seeing a PR but she loved PR's, lol... she didn't like dating her "own kind". I mean, when I used to go to see her at her crib or pick her up from school, I would get these killer looks from the dudes in her hood. However, I knew that they had to be at least 5 strong to try and step-up... that's how they was. So after about 2 years of us dating, she was invited to a party in her hood, about 4 blocks from her house. So we go on a double date, with her homegirl who's also dating my best friend. So we at the party chillin, she's talking to her girlfriends and me and my boy are sitting and listening to the music. Now for everyone to understand, Italians love Disco, Freestyle and Uprock music... especially back then. Then whatdayaknow, the djay throws on Just Begun and these two guys start to Rock BUT are doing a real bad job at it. Me and my boy spontaneously laugh and one of the dudes got pissed! So he steps to me and asks what the fuck is my problem?! I lost it... stood up and was about to drop the fool but everyone broke it up and we left. So we started to walk my girl home but just as we got about 2 blocks away, BOOM, 30 dudes roll up on us and one cat had one of the big old jack-stands to change car tires. He tried to take my head-off but I moved and he catches me on my shoulder! So I yelled for the girls to run to my the other crib and get my boys brother - then me and my boy HAULED ASS! They gave chase but I was booking. He caught my boy in the hip, so he started to fuckin fall behind.. I was like shit! Suddenly my boys older brother rolls up in his car and comes out with a bat! Then all those mothers took-off like roaches, lol! When I finally got home, my father and uncle was pissed and took some heat and got in his van to look for them cats but couldn't find them by that time. So the next day, my arm is all fucked up. My father, yells for me to come downstairs. I get there and my homeboy is in my crib. My pop told him the deal and he wants to get the crew and set it off! So, I'm like, let's do this shit! I called my girl and she says that the rumors are spreading around her hood about what happened and of course, she knows a majority of the dudes that jumped us. She told me the park where they hang out... so I said fuck it, we go. So we go to Van Siclen and get the whole crew and some cats I don't even know, lol. My father's van was filled to the max, lol. We get to the park in Woodhaven and you got a whole crew of cats chillin. At this point, we don't care who the fuck they are... the crew is hungry for beat downs! My dad drove around the to the other side of the park and they slowly snuck out the van and surprised them cats... for real! They started to run like hell but some were caught and well... you know... handled.
Whew.. my fingers are tired, lol. Hope you liked.

YES !!!! The crazy days of an East New York Kid !!!
one awesome story .. As I was reading this I was imagining how it was going the neighborhood and all the action ..ssswweeeettttt..
anyway to make P-JAYS stories short and him and the pasta lived happily ever after,,, and I ,, well I took a shot of that delicious pasta his wife cooks...AWESOME !!
I'm so happy for you Bandito que Dios te bendiga mi hermano !!
Here's one I remember one time living in brooklyn ( Menahan st ) my parents ask me to go to the store it was 7:00pm 1973 and the half moon acid was in affect that's right acid !!
well this was a piece of paper like half an inch" square with htis brown dot ln a shape of a half of moon .. remember that P-jay ? ,,
anyway on my way back from the store my boys called me in to this halway where we hunged out because back in the days that hallways was where we hunged out we would get kicked out of that hallways atleast 7 times a week but we will still hang in there and also the other peoples stoops and our everyday sit was what ever car was parked there .. I remeber when people started to put grease on the fender of there car so that people won't sit on them ...lol ..funny but true..
anyway back to my storie my boy Ben had a bunch of tabs of acid that he had stole from his older brother poochie yup Poochie lil daves freestyle partner back in the days,, by the way I was not rocking yet just gang busting ... but yeah I did see people rocking around the block partys... anyway about the acid trip ,,my boy called me in the hallway and told me if I wanted to try it and stupid me said sure.. I took half of half 15 minutes later I didn't feel nuttin so I took the other half .. still nuttin so I went home thinking nuttin of it on my way to my house I met my other friend we called Babalou this puertorican kid I told him what I took and he laugh at me and told me I was bluffing he told me if I took a whole tab I would be dead ..that's when I started to get scare because I took that whole tab for real...10 minutes sitting in my living and the shit started dawg I started to see my house waving and everything turned into a face all kinds of colors and characters I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror I saw the inside of my face I'm not lieing I saw my vains and my face was as red a blood really really red and the crazy shit was that only I can see my face red.. I was scare I wanted to scream I didn't know what to do I thought I was going to die.. I told my mom I was sick and needed to go to the hospital .. so my mom ask my sister to call her boyfriend so that they can take me to the hospital ( wyckoff hospital )and my sister called her boyfriend and on the way to the hospital I told him that I was not really sick that I was on acid and he told me aaaahhh you are triping ..and I said yup ..so when we got to the hospital we pretend to register but we never did register because my brother in law said that if they found out I was triping I could of gotten arrested so me and him kept it to ourself and sat there I bugged out all night and my sister seens she didn't know what was going on my brother in law said hey buz they called your name he told my sister that he would walk me in ...we walked out the hospital left my sister in the waiting room she thought we were inside so she waited while we walked all around bushwick.. just triping the f# out !!!
after that day I never ever triped again I thought I was going to die... by the way 4 years later while running with the crew touch of rock we had a junior touch of rock by the name of Mako that while he was as this party someone drop like around 10 tabs of acid in his drink and today he's a vegetable ... DON'T DO IT !!

dam, P-JAY's experience sounding like some real life West Side Story, but in this case ENY Side Story. lol. much respect bruh.
yo BUZ that's some comedy right there how you left your sister in the waiting room like that while you guys just walked around bushwick until you got a grip back on reality. on the serious tip though, forreal that shit is no joke. don't wanna end up dead or dead-headed, u know? definately can learn a thing or two from these stories.
it's cool tho that brothers like yall are on forums like these and are able to share your experiences and that history especially cus it brings that depth to this dance. brings that whole dimension into play. most definately can respect that since its something you lived, breathed, and felt strong about in your heart. I understand the way you guys feel whenever you dance rock nowadays and hear these songs it's like an accumulation of all them youthful experiences being relived and refreshed again thru that moment.

One of the best threads ever!!!
What stories!!!! Damn that shit was def like a movie PJAY!!! Only a big ass dood like you wouldn´t trip about going into a Itailian neighorhood! hahaha I was laughing out loud here in the internet cafe! people looking at me crazy. It´s funny cause it was similar when i was in high school, only the 90´s and in cali it was blacks, mexicans, vietnamese and filipinos...But i swear when that gangsta rap started dropping there was fights everyday, race wars and the whole nine!! Luckly for the most part everyone left the breakdancers alone!!
I knew there had to be more stories based on girls... I know they cause 80 percent of all real beefs out there!hahaha Nothing but trouble i tell ya...
And buz...damn bro, i am glad you didn´t veg out!!! I have had some similar experiences on mushrooms!!! and to everyone out there if you are stupid enough to try these drugs at some point, NEVER EVER LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR!!!!!!! It is never a good thing to do on drugs!!
Thanks for the laughs, honestly when ever i head back to the BK and learn about ROCK half the time i am just hearing mindblowing stories like this that have nothing or only alittle to do with the actual dance... But i am learning about the context of the times when rock was going down. These stories are one of my favorite parts of rocking!!!
Peace yall
Rock Bandit
Forever we Rock
Keep the stories coming...Working on the Spanish everyday, but i still got a lot to learn!!

DEEP IN MY THOUGHTS !
sitting here deep in my thoughts with my eyes close and going back to Linden Park .. a park in the middle Of Bushwick located on linden st between central ave and wilson ave ... across from the park there's an open lot a huge open lot that you can see central and bleecker and greene and wilson which is located two blocks from linden park and that's why the music echos all the way to knicerbocker ave because of the empty lot and the huge towles that the dj's put out there .. and behind the dj sat this hospital a small hospital like a childrens hospital but no stay overs .. just a day hospital .. and at the corner there's a BODEGA and next to the Bodega there's another Bodega and next to that bodega there's another Bodega and they all are open 24 hours because in the back of them bodega is where they sale the trade bags (weed)... and at 11:00pm they shut down the gates and there's a little window open for buisness ..this little box window 12 by 12 with this bullet proof window that rolls so that you can order and put the money in and than you will get what ever it was that you order...,
Meanwhile back in the park .. the park is dark and all the light is
where the dj and all the crates stand the music is blairng I'm talking loud ,, Loud enough that you can't even hear yourself and everyone is yelling loose joint and trade bags ... this is what you heard ( loose joint ..)
( I have the weed that killied bruce lee ) ( columbian smoke ) ( jaimacan smoke )
and you could'nt sale green weed because it would not sale !!
than there was the music of the 70's midnight love affair by carl douglas ,, massage in the music by the o'jays . One night affair by Jay black the Hustle by Mcoy .. open sesame the devils gun ,, can't get enough of your love by Barry white and everyone is doing the HUSTLE no one I mean no-one is rocking up untill you here this song that went like this pono..pono..pono..pom..porom..
( Truck turner ) SHOW TIME !! ... of cause Touch of rock get's on the floor first because Linden park was our home base my boy cus and duz starts it off and along comes Danny boy with tony and carlos with manny and necxt to them is Cus and Duz and beside them is Me buz and my boy Tiger we keep dancing because the dj always started with songs like (Truck Turnner)
( bra )( women ) ( meltingpot ) ( new bell ) and ( power ) so we would respect the warm-ups than the dj. smacks ripple the seen starts to get heated up and Listen to me breaks into the act and DYNASTY ROCKERS AND TOUCH OF ROCK sparks the park and all of the suthing there are Dynasty Rockers out of no where and Touch Of Rock out of the blues and the circle expands but only two Dynasty are on the floor and two Touch of rock and the battle begins BUZ -VS-DANNYBOY AND CUS -VS-TONY and the swtch goes from CARLOS -VS- DUZ and MANNY -VS - TIGER !! and than so on nuttin but sweat and Burns routines and all kinds of yerks ...than the battle ends up with some of the Dynsty gals and the Touch of rock Gals they battle for a couple of songs and than they hug and kiss it was there way of coolimg everything downBecause the guys never shake there hands because this battle is never over is always to be continue then the following days the battle continues at jhs 62 ( Dynasty home ) where DYNASTY meets lildave rockers than the next day at ps 73 mtc's home where Mtc vs touch of rock the next battle would take place at Bushwick park Lil dave home town where Lil dave rockers vs Tor / Dynasty then there jhs 111 dynamic spinner home town where most of the JR. touch of rock / jr. dynasty / jr. disco rockers would share there battles ..... and than there was Franklyn k. lane where we would go out there and battle against all kind of crew and one thing you never did when you went to east new york was wear your shirts... it didn't go cool with them CATS !! Unless you went to this place where they held a couple of jams call OUR LADY OF LOURES !! we called that the border of east new york and bushwick at that place it was ok to wear your letters...and so did the crews from east new york it was a nutral zone...
and there was Bleecker st. where the crew touch of rock would battle people and with all there re-mix rock music confuse the crap out of everybody and toast them of gurad .. no=one came to bleecker to battle touch of rock because they would get burnt,, no-one went to irving and greene to battle Dynasty because they would get bunt..no-one went to hancock and battle lil dave rockers,,no-one went to evergreen and central . to battle mtc .. no-one went to stockolm to battle the disco rockers and no-one went to troutman and central to battle the dynamic spinners...
what i'm saying is the all crews had there block where they would call home field advantage...
