No... I understand your confusion. Reason is, is that Toprock borrowed heavily from true Uprock, so that it really takes a visual to understand.

However, what you specifically don't understand from what you've read?

That's the thing. There is no vast footage or examples in movies. True Uprock has never been displayed on a wide scale until recently. You may find clips but not a great majority and that won't help much. Which is why King Uprock made his DVD.

The contraversy only comes from those who are adamant about where or from whom they think they learned Uprock from. Like most Bboys who learned it from other Bboys, who may be vets or they highly respected - so how could they be wrong. Yet they know that OG Brooklyn Uprockers are still around but won't point you in the right direction to learn. Also, you have some Bboys who became so fond of the "Bboy Style Uprock" or Toprock, that they defend it til wits end. However, this is not the original style and will never be.

All I can say for now is to keep studying and be patient, because we have some projects in the works to help the masses who are interested. Also, if you can ever make it out to NYC... come to Brooklyn and look us up. You won't be dissappointed.

Peace.

uprock is done with two or more individuals, a battle of expressions, so to speak. if you are by yourself, it is just fruitful dancing. toprock is usually accompanied by a drop into footwork, comprising a set. uprock alone is simply a mixture of burns, taunts, and free movement that goes with the beat, but also tells as story as well, while your opponent does the same. it can be easy to confuse the two because they both do involve body movement and expression, but uprock is a deeper expression that involves interaction with your opponent simultaneously, whereas in toprock, you take turns. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

just think of Uprocking as a kind of bboy battling.

cos thats what it is essentially. just it needs to be a certain style to count as uprocking.
