Read some of the threads in this part of the forum. There's a few asking this question and all have similar answers.
Take a bit of time to read and you'll get the answer.

A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.

There's just no point.

There is not a real way to do uprock. its all about hitting the beats and keeping a good speed with the beats. dont try to do it the same as others, because its all about showing your own style.

man up and toprock take ALOT of time. lol not to discourage you or anything. its not like any other move where you can just "learn" it. you have to develop your uprock and add in your own personal style as you continue to get better.

Different person, different syle, different flow, different moves...You just do it..Follow the beats and just move..eventully youll find sumthin u do and like..and it will progress into ur own style of toprock/uprock.

something that will really help when doing uprock is to just keep counting 12 345, 12 345. The 345 is usually sped up and then you go down on 5. The 5 should always end up on the snare of the song ur dancin to.

its all your own style. at first you might say, "the other styles look kool, but mine looks so gay." But you never know. your own style is never gay.

another useful tip is to never look down at your feet. it makes you not feel so bad about your movement.

Anyone can say they up-rock the question is ????

are you doing the proper way of up-rock....Oh yeah is no doubt is all about staying on beat ... but the most important thing is connecting the combo from a yerk to a burn from a turn to a burn not repeating the same burn or the same yerk and than there's the freestyle moves and also combining it with burns and not to mention the latin flavor ...... you see top rocking is no way near up-rocking I don't care who says it is ....to up-rock is to have many combos of yerks and burns and also combining them threw a whole song...

Here's a real good tip ..... Come to Brooklyn and meet up with some real rockers and take some lessons ...... if you have no knowledge of the dance .... that beat thing is in all dances in order to dance you need to find the beat .... but in order to up-rock you need to know how to yerk !!!!!

I disagree. Learning how to uprock will greatly improve one's creativity with regular breaking and toprock. Besides, why would you want to enter into a gun fight only carrying a knife? It's best to be fluent with all types of movement. Don't know about where your from, but when a battle breaks out over here in the clubs, and some dude starts mixing in uprock with his toprock and breaking, it looks freaking awesome, and the crowds go absolutely crazy... and no, I'm not talking apache lines. I'm talking the simple principle of the five step (uprock foundation), and what you do to make your five step stand out and flow correctly....
