Okay it does sound like you've got a rough idea.
Jerks and Burns are a part of rocking, there's the freestyle part too, which is a big part.
Read through some of the threads in this section and you'll get an idea. Look especially for posts by Break Easy and PJay71.
Detailed tutorials have been requested before, but rocking isn't really a dance that can be learned that way.
I have NO idea where Branchburg is, but the main population of rockers is to be found in Brooklyn. One or two members of Dynasty Rockers (
www.dynastyrockers.com ) are based outside New York though. Pretty sure Numbers lives on the West coast. (Though my american geography is appaling, I could be very wrong with location)
There's a member in Dijon too, but that's not really any help to you.
Anyway, about the only way to learn to rock properly, is to learn from a rocker, and unless you can get to brooklyn or happen to live near someone like Numbers, then you'll find it kinda hard.
I'd reccomend taking a look at dancers like Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, The Nicholas Borthers and similar.
Also dances like Salsa, and The Hustle.
These are some of the major influences on the freestyle part of uprock and if you get into that kind of movement you could find it easier to learn once you do get together with some rockers.
Again, take a read around the other threads in this section.
Hope that helps.
God Bless.
