Rocking is the True name of the Dance.
Its' name changed to UpRock after people thinking they were going to a rock concert and not a Uprock Jam. Uprock is also known as Rocking, or Brooklyn Rock. Uprocking and Toprocking although similar are two individual dances. Uprocking is for the Rockers - people who dance an entire song with Freestyle, Jerks and Burns. Toprocking is for the Bboys as a wind up before they hit the ground for there Footwork. A burn is how you humiliate your opponent and it can be executed during the Freestyle or break of a song. It is how you listen to the music and create your diss to that individual while still dancing. Usually there is a reciprical burn one block one type of Jerk that is shared among two rockers. This gives each rocker a chance to burn the other. I am not saying you should burn all the time, you should also know how to block or evade a burn. Sometimes this is even more impressive. Remember it is a dance and you have to remain in a line formation to keep your space, what I mean is: a rocker is territorial and you keep your opponent from taking over your dance space.
A BBoy does Toprock it is a simple way of gathering your energy before you go to the floor. Here is a hint for those who want to Top Rock in a circle: Look at your six step. Now try that same six step standing up. Once you get to the fifth and six step skip up switch and begin the one. This was a simple step to learning how to change your toprock for a footwork.

Could someone differentiate the two for me please? So far ive gone over brooklyn rock, but cant find anything to work on bronx rock. thanks.

I'm kind of a beginner just so you know, but i wanna cover a good number of categories for bboying (uprock, toprock, footwork,etc) before making sets.

What do i know about it?? I've just gone over a basic brooklyn rock routine, (not so hard) from a tutorial. Thats all ive covered so far for UPROCK.

If you wanna know what it is, I think it was used by two opponents who tried to dance each other out in a kind of 'conflict' condition, it included burns (hand gestures) and various foot movements. It originated from around the 70s i think.

well since your main focus is bboying... ill tell you this then... uprock is a totally separate dance away from bboyin... and trust me kid i kno what uprock is and still learning more about it... not tryin to claim authority or anything... hahaha...!!

but anyways point is this... its cool you want to learn more about uprocking... but it is WAAAY more than whatever you probably learned from that tutorial...

let me say it again... it is a separate dance... meaning to say...
for BBOYIN... you got tops... footwork... power... etc...
for UPROCK... you got freestyle... burns... jerks...
for SALSA... etc...
for DISCO... etc...

get what im sayin...?

as for the question regarding the main topic question... there is such a thing as bronx rock according to wiggles... but i take it in a way that it is a style of uprock from that borough of new york... brooklyn got their styles... manhattan got their styles...

just like how different bboy styles are between usa and korea for understanding...

if youre interested in it more... please refer to these threads related to uprock... and also for viewing pleasures and interviews... you should check youtube for an account "tiny1love" who has various footage of what real uprock is...

yeh i was aware that uprock was not essential, unlike toprock of course, which ive been working WAY more on, so its cool. got two basic forms of uprock learnt anyway, but yeh its much more about the toprock of course.

Im a begginer myself. been bboyin for 3months at practicing uprocks.

I heard if youre nice at uprocking u can hit beats better.
Idk if its true but still practice tho it will help you. Not alot i think, but still.
Do whatever that can make you a better bboy rite?

yes its tru by learning how to uprock you can dance better and improve your breaking... i can vouch for that...

funny thing i can say tho is that you said uve been bboyin for 3 months by practicing uprocking... hahahah...!! meaning to say if you know wussup... uve either meant toprocking... or havent been bboyin at all for those 3 months becuz uve been uprocking...!! bwaahaha...!!

understand this too kid... learning uprock has to come from a definite source other than the intranet... youtube and forums cant really teach you how to dance... bboyin is an exception at this point... although its misleading a lot of cats around... same goes with uprocking as well... becuz misconception of it is that it is part of bboying when it isnt...!!

please refer to past postings on this topic for information sources on what UPROCK really is...!!

Ye bro were still here and dancing, couple of guys retired so now is just few of us, but hey i dont care hehe still doing my thing. Your doing a good job here keep it up and yes its cold out here, so cold that i were laing in my bed for last week couse i caught a floo.

Yo do it to a whole song, you dance in an apache line, this ISNT just another variation to go to footwork, freez, or powermove, its a SEPERATE DANCE, that has his own foundations and history, its not a part of Breaking
