Light As A Feather Or Heavy As A Stone - 10-03-2006, 07:08 PM

Well I don't really understand how to make a toprock look good because I know the steps but when I do it infront of a mirror I look very sluggish. I was wondering if you have to relax and just kick or whatever lightly and stuff or you like force it as hard as you can to make it go faster because in some topics I saw that going to lightly will make you look lazy but others say forcing it will make you look like you need to go to the bathroom.

well. you need to be relaxed. not really thinking about your toprock. like look in a mirror and make sure when you kick to point your toes up keep your leg straight more of a stomp when you think about it but you stomp the air not he ground. and make sure to put some hand movements into it. start breaking to some slow stuff first. worry about keeping the beat. like toprock to the roots. then move it up to run dmc or somethign

I would say warm up good beforehand. This helps you move quicker and gives you a wider range of motion. Also, perhaps you could try keeping your weight on your toes. Perhaps learn a few variations on toprock, to give yourself something to play with. I find it helps if I imagine myself as light and energetic. People tell me that I dance/look better when I'm having fun. Maybe it will come more naturally if you just focus more on the music. Don't think you are the man, KNOW you are the man, and with that confidence I think you'll see improvement. Another thing that might help is "ladder" exercises. Think like when you see footballers stepping in the tires. It works on speed and stamina.

just dance loosely at 1st.... it might look abit repetitive but soon you will be able to move like a kite in the sky

Thanks guys, the staying on my toes thing helped me stay on beat better and the stomping motion made my Toprock look decent. Keep the advice coming!
