Order and Learning? - 07-31-2006, 11:16 PM

Alright, i don't really know to many people in my area that actually breakdance or even have the time to teach me (even for money). I've taken it upon myself to learn, but i've just basically been praticing different things at different times with no specific order. I've been reading lots of posts on the toprock section of this forum and i notice that this step is very important. Anyways what i'm trying to get at is, is that do i need to learn things in a specific order, if so how long and what do i learn first - last. I also purchased that breakdance video because i am very interested in learning. If i can't learn from a specific person i might as well learn from the people who are devoted to this site. It seems to me, many people know what they are talking about. Oh and also i have never really taken any dance classes before but Music and Dancing are things that I Love. Music is my life and I love to dance! Any suggestions?

There's really no order but certainly the first things you should learn are indian step (a toprock style), six-step and the turtle freeze. This is the absolute bare bones basics. After that you can pick and choose what you want to learn from there depending on how you want to develop. Want to be a style guy? start working on more toprock styles and more footwork steps...wanna be a power guy? learn windmills and swipes and move on from there. Wanna be well-rounded (the best choice in my opinion)...be patient, be determined and work on everything.
