Toprock and beats in a song - 04-25-2006, 07:07 AM

I'm pretty sure the beats in a song matter to toprocking, and all other moves, for that matter. I'm just curious, which beat should I follow, and which position should I be in when that beat occurs?

Some people are like slinkies. Utterly useless, but rather entertaining to watch when pushed down a flight of stairs.

Bboying seal. (Crickets, bellyspin, bellyslide)

You should be following the most prominent one. I can't explain it real well and it'll be pretty hard to understand anyway but watch a few vids and you'll notice that most bboys hit the most prominent beat, if you got any rhythm and soul it should come naturally. Ahhh man, someone else explain this it's too fucking late here.

Anyway if you need any help, add me or something on msn and i'll explain it, you basically follow the last beat of every bar, so for example if it's a 4/4 song in time signature, you hit every fourth beat, if it's a 2/4 beat song which will be twice as fast, you hit every second beat usually, or every fourth one if you want to slow it down.

Hope i helped, sorry if i didn't

Peace

Try following the first beat of a sequence. This might not always be possible, but it should act as a general guideline. Also, know the songs you dance to. Memorize them. If there are pauses or "breaks", know where they are and when they come.

As for footwork on ground, the general idea is that a 6-step starts at first beat and ends at fourth, with the next circulation starting at first beat again. This can be varied to do slower steps or faster steps, switching directions or doing anything else. The idea is that you shouldn't start a new sequence in mid-beat.

Always aim for the 'first beat', then start doing a new sequence. The reason for this is that if you start mid-beat, you might end up in a situation when the music contains a break after this beat, and that leaves you doing the sequence without beat, which is generally a bad idea.

Breakin' for fitness & fun.
