Just updated the Outlaw, Apache, and House step.

As usual...this is just what me and my crew calls these.

Also, these are pretty advanced styles so don't expect to get them anytime soon. Even with someone to teach me in person it took me a while to get these down to the point that I could do them without thinking. Just be patient and do what you can.

Think of a see-saw...one end touches the ground and then the other end. That's sort of what your foot is doing. it's going from the heel to the toe.

It's basically just a quick kick out where you heel touches and then you're going back and putting you're weight on the ball of your foot so that you can hop into the next part of your toprock.

Ok, I gotta question. Im just starting out in b-boy'in. I only have a couple of weeks under the belt, complete beginer and im gonna concentrate on the top rock over anything else until i have it lookin' cool as f**k. My girls a dancer (general, not b-girl) and she keeps telling me not to worry about counting the beats or trying to match the steps to them 'cos it aint done like that. She's wrong, right?
I understand music and 4/4 time. 8, 16, 32 blah.. blah..
When im doing the Apache;
step/beat 1 - my right foot steps across and infront of my left, and my left comes of the ground
step/beat 2 - My right foot swings back to centre but stays of the ground and my left foot is back on the ground.
step/beat 3 - my right foot goes back on the ground, centre
beat 4 - nothing. im on a slight pause
step/beat 5 - left foot across and infront of the right. Right comes of the ground.
step/beat 6 - Left foot swings back to centre but stays of the ground and my right foot is back on the ground.
step/beat 7 - my left foot goes back on the ground, centre.
beat 8 - Another slight pause.

I've written that out in basic form. I just wanted to show which beats im moving on. The way i'm doing it i'm filling up the whole 8 beats. Is that right, or am I getting too uniform? And if it is right, then is that how I should be applying all the other top rocks?

Thanks for all the help!

The steps don't conform exactly to beats in apache. with some of the others it does but not in this case. In the way you wrote it out your feet would be hitting the beats at 1 and 5. 4 and 8 in the above post is where a slight kick should be before switching to the other side.

As for hitting beats...it might not be done in other dance forms, but in b-boying it is very important to step to the snares. Most other dance forms simply concentrate on tempo and not actually hitting beats.

I'll see what I can do about some type of video sometime soon.

...So, it might not be a bad idea for me to just stop trying to count, and just listen to the snare?

AlphaTrion, props for your guide. It's definitely helping. But I have a couple of questions.
1. I think I understand what a hopscotch toprock is (especially after watching a little girl playing hopscotch in the street) but could you concretize your description a little. While doing it do you hop in one place or front, back, front, back or front and to the right, back and to the left to the starting position, front and to the left, starting position?
2. Besides that in one of your posts you said that you have to spread your legs on 2,4 counts, to say the truth it confused me a little, so what distance should be between a heel of one leg and a toe of the other leg on 2,4 counts? I think it should be around 10-15 cm (4-6 inches). Am I right?
I think you don't even need vids to add to your guide, IMHO if you make and post photos for each step of every toprock (so there would be a photo with a little description), it would be the BEST toprock tutorial on the net EVER and it would exceed even all video toprock guides.
Respect for helping others. Peace.

Hi. I'm new here and i can`t breakdance. I'm a visual learner (means i learn it when i see it). Your guide is maybe good for some people but it's not really helping me. My frien is doing breakdance and when I watched him I wanted to learn. Can you show me some videos? The videos would help me a lot. I downloaded a video from this site (top rock) and I learned it. So please if you find some videos load them up.

My english is not so good. gg. sorry

Alphatrion this is really dope man, if you get time to put up a video guide to go along with this illustrating the moves it would be even better. If you can flip the footage horizontally so when you show us kick with your right foot, we'll see your foot on the right so it will be really clear. I know your busy and everything, but with 5 pages of posts on this, people obviously want more myself included. Peace Bro and thank you for taking the time to do this - GRIZ

I appreciate the response the thread has gotten and I will try to get off my ass and get a tutorial video, but it won't be for a couple of weeks at least. I'm working working on two shorts and one full-length DVD, and traning for about 3 battles right now so i'm a little busy.

But since it's in such high demand I'll try and put a rush on it.
