And yes, it's very important. Toprock is an essential part of your style. Battles are very confrontational dances. It's hard to be confrontational and imposing by just doing six-steps.
not only that , please learn how to spell
if you don' thave tops, you don't have the dance... it's essential
i don't care WHO you are - it's part of the flow and nothing bothers me more than a bboy who can't hit tops... unless his footwork is so damn dope i can't take my eyes off of it , but usually those guys have tops. LEARN your tops
you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers
If you're not top rockin, you're just doing gymnastics to a beat. You gotta add your own flavour to everything - freezes, footwork and ESPECIALLY top rock. That's what separates the great bboys from the good bboys. Eventually everyone can learn power moves and stalls, but if you can't put together something dope and bust out something dope when you first get in to get everyone's attention, you'll never be great.
Easiest way to see this: think of one bboy that you think is absolutely amazing and i guarantee they've got toprocking skillz. So, I'd say top rock is one of the MOST important things in breaking.
Toprock is excruciatingly essential. Sure you can just get into you're footwork but that dont look good. Starting with toprock makes you're show look a lot better. Do it for your own good and do the toprock.

k , this guy jake evans puts on these "funky stepin classes" and thats how i got into bboyin. he taught us the basics, starting out with liek 5 toprock moves, then 6 step, coffee grinders, and baby freeze, (shit like that)
i always ask him to teach me or help me with powermoves or technical freeze combos, and he says "i cant teach you untill u practse toprockin for at least 6 months.
now its been a month or so since and my tops are getting way smoother, and i probly got 8-10 different tops.
do you think i should acculy toprock for 6 months, without trying any other stuff, cuz i dont really think so.
i realize tops are veery important, but my tops will imporove as i contunie bboyin, and i think i should at least learn mills in 6 months. ( i can do 1 rotation but its terible.)
