I'm just gonna add to what Engyn said.
The toprock is the movements you pull off before you start your set. Usually, while around a crowd of people, you do it to create a circle of people in order to show your stuff, or to call someone out for a battle. Like Engyn said, it's the cross-steps, side-steps, any type of movement using your arms and legs to go to the beat, to warm you up, to get the feel of the beat before you bust your groove. In summary, the toprock is the dance you do while on your feet to feel the beat and bust a move on the floor.
The uprock is a dance in itself. The "Apache Line" is where the uprock is usually performed. Some moves in the toprock are usually performed in the uprock. However, since the uprock is like a battle between two people, without hitting each other of course, you would use your arms and legs as you would in a fight, except you would go to the beat. The two people are in front of each other, and when the music comes on, it's like they would have a one-on-one fight. Like Engyn said, the beat is usually 1 2 3-4-5. Or boom, chic, boom-boom-chick. Or something like that.
So, toprock is the warmup before the breakdown. Uprock is the battle.
Air moves us.
Fire transforms us.
Water shapes us.
Earth heals us.
