criticize my toprock/backglide - 03-24-2004, 03:30 PM

Im pretty noob here and to bboying so make fun all you want.

I dunno what the first part of the clip is even called, but it looked fun so i did it. The second part is my toprock that I more or less got off the guide (and added some random extra steps in that look retarded). I'll mix it up once I know that I have the basics down.

your tops need a major overhaul....

that backglide, yes its a backglide.... anyways its ok but the foot that is moving backwards should be slightly hovering above the ground.... because if u try to backglide on concrete, then u'll hear all this scraping and shit and the effect will be gone

Criticism is one way to strengthen your motivation for bboying, but that's not what you need, especially starting out.

From what I've watched, you're off to a good start... practice, practice, practice!

The backglide isn't to shabby, except... I wonder how it would be with sneaks on a dancefloor.

Here are a few pointers:

1) Emphasize the beat - don't allow yourself to wander out of control or make the beat follow you... remember, we're dancers. We let the beat manipulate us. Manipulation of the beat is the Djs job.
2) Creativity vs. Innovative - it's easy to be creative: taking what others have done and improving it. However, strive to be innovative: create something. Yes it's difficult to come out with something completely new, but be creatively innovative: study others' ideas to develop your own uniqueness.
3) Dedication - you need to dedicate yourself to your dancing. Love the dance. Make it a part of your lifestyle. These elements make the dancer. What you strive for in your dancing is to project your own personality into an image that's described in your dancing.
4) Motive - Why do you dance? Is it for fame or for the culture? Whatever the reason is, you must find the answer... through this, you can find your motivation.
5) Motivation - Be motivated to better yourself. If you ever feel your motivation dwindling, rethink your motive for dancing and find that flare that started you in the first place.
6) Confidence - "Dance like nobody's watching"? No. You must be full of confidence when dancing alone or during an event. Confidence strengthens character, and character strengthens your dancing.
7) Find Yourself - When you dance, it should be you dancing, not someone else. Find yourself in your dance, and dance.

Just a few tips for your upcoming trials... remember, it's ok to mess up, we all have done it before... just get up and try it again, and again, and again.

If there's anything else PM, and I'll give you my email address.

The important thing is... is that at anytime we can sacrifice what we are now for what we can become.

True or False: 'Dance like noone's watching'?

FALSE

thanks for the tips, I'll add a LOT of variety to my toprock becuase its really basic and boring at this point. I'll probably have a new clip of my toprock by the end of next week (spring break next week).
