clearin a circle - 02-13-2004, 09:45 PM

you kno when your doin your toprock and you gotta like makin space for breakin, like a circle, is there a certain way you should do it? cuz alot of these guides for toprock are for standing in place. When i tried to do it it was kinda hard for me to hit the beats while going around, so how do some of you do it (if you kno what i'm talkin about)? i'm jes curious

Drifter...the final project

Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it
to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago,
then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own
limitless form of expression, it can be that for you.
The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is...
and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore.

um, well,
you probably don't want to be thinking about clearing a circle until you can hit some beats !
practice the standard toprock - moving your arms makes a big difference especially if you want to work out some space. The arms are open when the legs are crossed and vice versa, as a general rule. After you can hit the beats it shouldn't be so hard to move it a body width from side to side

get more toprocks than just the basic " cross jump " one
get indian step, some of the hopping side to sides, the shuffle, the one based off the charlston and so on
check out some rock steps too ( rock as in rockin' , not the music)

look at the uprock guide - it's good for style purposes even when you're toprocking

you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers

What`s Indian step?? - 02-22-2004, 03:42 PM

-> Electron.
Hi there. I started bboying a few months ago, and I`m still working on my balance (hand-, headstands etc..) and I was trying to work on my toprock too.

Electron, would you please be so kind and put here some description (or links to some vids or sth..) on the stuff you mentioned in your post?? I ve never heard of those "indian step"," the shuffle" or those "one based off the charlston"

Thanks

Peace

yeah... i've had a fair number of people asking me about the toprocks, ( indian step and so on)
and i'll hopefully get some clips up soon

it's basically a kick jump cross jump
but that doesn't explain much and it sounds way to com[licated when i try to write it out

so i'll work on the vids
