Thumbs up Toprocking Ideas - 12-08-2003, 07:59 PM

Hey guys, I'm really new here. Still learning most of the lingo, but by now I realize how important toprock is, so I've been trying to practice it a bit. I still dance like a hippie drugged up on heroine and steroids, but I'm practicing and getting better. However, I'm looking for more ideas for toprocking and hopefully I could kind of meld a whole bunch of them until I started making up my own shit. So if you guys could post some basic toprocking steps, that'd be extremely helpful.

there is toprock and there is rocking

standard toprock is the cross , jump , that is described a lot in this forum

other standard rocks are " glides' which in this case mean a kick side , jump on that leg and cross theother leg behind you ( jump left, jump right cross left back , then repeat other side ) , indian step , which is a kick step cross step that is hard for me to show without taking pictures or a video of it and i don't have cameras with me right now , another easy rock is step side cross back and repeat other side
you can do a hop hop HOP ( one two , THREE hold , add a punch on three ) asia one does this with her knuckes together and pulls them apart on three

you can also practice " jerks " which is where you kick your leg forward and back and move your body in the opposite direction - make that , well , jerky ... the snappier it is the better it is

a toprock is , in the end, your own style ... you might want to watch a bunch of bboy videos to get an idea of what you like and then practice what you see there - don't worry , people here talk about biting like it's the plague but actually a lot of the toprock moves are so standard that you're no more biting than when you use the alphabet to make a sentence. Just practice

you must have been a bgirl.... because the only moves that you pulled on me were heartbreakers

i figured this out earlier today. its kinda cool. while doin tops, try to write a word, like your name, with your feet in a sloppy yet cool and smooth way. it helps get ideas for some toprock and uprock routines.i dont mean to just stand there and write your name with one foot, i mean to hop around and swing your feet in the shape of a letter and try to mix it up a bit. The first two letters of my name is L and O. i made a new tops where you make an L motion starting from the top with your right foot, the make an O motion with your left foot in the same spot. then hop backwards and reapeat in the opposite direction. its not very smooth yet but i will get better at it.

i do this when i wanna do a 180 and still toprock

1) stand up, point your feet stright.
2) move your right foot in front of your left foot.
3) then jump and swich your feet around (Put your left foor where your right was and the other way around)
4) then move your right foot next to your left (stand normaly)
5) jump then swich your feet around (Right where your left was and the other way around)
6) then spin around

if you just wanna spin then do steps 4 5 and 6

this is not the only toprock i do
