Question toprock timing? - 11-05-2003, 06:59 PM

on top rock i dont know the rules of the timing, i.e. do you have to be back in "the middle of the clock" at any certain beats (2 and 4 or 1 and 3) or do you just go at whatever speed/pace feels right? im new to this so i dont know, any help would be appreciated, and also any advice on breakdancing in general would be appreciated. thanks.

i think it just depends on your style on liking and when youre ready to get to floorwork and where in the circle you want to be located before you bust out anything. So just go with the flow and beat.

if you're feelin the music your tops are most likely in rhythm so like watashi said, go with the flow

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

theres USUALLY a count...but as long as u hit the beats, it doesnt matter

Dont bite the hand that feeds u, eventually everyone helping u will get annoyed...jesus.

Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

most songs are running on strict 4/4 time, so just count 1, 2, 3 and 4 whenever you feel the music is on a beat, listen to the rhythm of the music, espeically if there is a low drum beat, just make sure your counting is even~ as with being back in the middle of the clock, there is no middle of the clock, if you see people who have their toprock down, they dont really concentrate on where they are stepping, rather how their body moves altogether. once you have practiced enough, it wont matter where you be steppin, cuz you'll be all over the place anyway ^^

kthxbye

Its all about ur style

Drifter...the final project

Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it
to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago,
then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own
limitless form of expression, it can be that for you.
The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is...
and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore.

Similar problem - 12-19-2003, 02:08 PM

I have a similar timing problem- Im really new to everything so I think I just gotta get the hang of a few things before the rest will start making sense.

Ive been doin 6step and toprock- however, I watched one of the videos on a thread on toprock, and I got the general form down, but when I try to make it flow in a song, Im always a beat short. My toprock takes 5, and anyone will tell ya I only have 4 to work with...

I found where Im losing the beat, its after the initial step, on the bring back, I dont start my second step at the same time Im clearing the first one, and thats my beat loss, but i messed around with it and could find a way to correct it- everything led to me toprocking in a circle since I was weighted on one side

Any Ideas?
