the tops look good, but you're not hitting the beats. you're supposed to hit the snare (the hard hitting beat) and you usually want to do that when you do the step and not when your feet are coming back together after the step. you can have tops that look dope, but if you keep playin hopscotch with the beats (hitting the beat once and then switching to an offbeat) then you're goin to get laughed at when you try to battle.

as for your footwork, it only looks weird because of your arms and legs being so long. if you want to keep doing footwork in an extended style like you are right now, then you're goin to need to get your hips up. if not, then you'll want to get your hips under you more. other than that, i'd say that your footwork technique isn't bad.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what Emass was talking about because you seemed relatively on beat in the video. It's possible that the video desynced when playing on his computer.
Anyways, in terms of what to improve on, you should focus on making your toprock into dancing. This may seem like a weird thing to say but I will try to explain the concept. Most of the time when people start Bboying they are focused on learning the moves. This is not necessarily incorrect but you have to be ready to change that mindset as time goes on. You don't want to think of what you're doing as a series of moves you're putting together, you want it to all seem as if it is one movement. This doesn't mean that you can't have pauses or something like but rather that you should not view what you're doing as moves but as movement, something all together, not having each step being something different. |

must have messed up when it was playing on my comp or something. i watched it again and i guess i just couldn't hear the music enough the first time. from what i saw you were mostly on the beat in the sets. on the last two sets it looked to me like you rushed the beat by just a fraction of a second... especially in the second set. not that it really matters too much if your so close to them, but try to get there right on it. other than that, i'd agree with Stylisic's assessment. try making your tops less move oriented and more dance oriented.

emass...maybe it was sync error...between camera, this crappy movie maker on this computer, and since u mentioned especially second set...that sound was dubbed in and mixed w/ original audio because a plane flew overhead and f'ed up audio on that set...so maybe it was slightly off for that one too...
But yea I feel you on the dance thing...think its also because I use lots of basic steps...I dont really memorize all the moves this video has some stuff I've never done in my life before...its probably because when I started to learn toprock I drilled everything tech by tech so it shows now in my tops...I just freestyle record myself and watch now and I always find a little something new in there that I like etc. |

First song was a gritty Black Thought. Gotta embody his delivery and persona. Persuade me that you understand where he's coming from, don't just repeat the basic toprock. (I am coming from the perspective of taking it somewhere, tell the story.)
2nd beat is sneaky to me. Use more upper body angles. Started getting the idea when you came out with the last Guru track. You've got good equipment, but I think you could feel the moves more than just execute them from this point. Especially the indian or cross step. What I mean is.. don't be satisfied with basics, expound on them.Keep up it. Nice freezes in the beginning. |

Yea I feel you...I just gotta keep at it cuz im seeing the more I go the more random moves just start to pop up that go perfect w/ the beat...e.g. 1:13 I have never done before and imo the second beat is more of a hard hitting one the snare jumps out at me hard in sync w/ main melody...
I think over time tho my tops will become more and more natural because I'm seeing progress... As far as the actual steps tho is there anything wrong and where am I at for the time I've been bboying 2?? I know my footwork form is just off and I gotta go back to drilling some stuff but am I good on that in you guys' opinions |

Nice tops dude, I thought it looked nice but it didn't seem to flow too well, I don't know why. I agree with what StylisticSmiley said about making it all fluid and as one movement. Other than that it was good and I thought the stuff at the end of the vid was the best as you seemed more relaxed and into it. Keep it up man
