Something I think about while Toprocking is definitely moving around. Toprock is making space for yourself in the circle. Marking your territory you know? So do not be afraid to move around the circle. Instead of dancing on one spot.

Have a confident entrance which will set the energy and the feel for your set
Don't stay in the one place, altho sometimes its better if you do

I was thinking today about a concept. When you go to buy a book, game, anything you don't really know about what grabs your attention? The cover.

Toprocking is your cover, a lot of people, bboys, bgirls may not know who you are so your toprock is your way of introducing your story. With a stylish, sexy, rhythmic cover.

Tell me what you think of this concept =]

totally agreed man, it def is self-expression

Toprock is showin' who you are, that you know wth you're doin (even if you might not), and that you are prepared to completely exhaust your energy in the circle.

I think that's wut it is, but then again, I believe there's rly no answer to this.

Toprock, one thing I'm sure of, is endless in possiblity haha (in execution and form)

same goes for its meaning, its definition, and its purpose.

Thats definitely it but people have a hard time understanding it. So I'm going to try to give a example:

When someone heartbroken they can tell a story not only with their feet but with their hands. Imagine a dancer moving around the circle, pretending to wipe tears and pulls at the place his heart is with his hand gestures. That is definitely self expression. The better you tell a story the better your style shows through

i have a hard time moving around cuz when i try i get off beat lol wat something i can do to improve this cuz i'm supposed to be in a 3 on 3 competition on august tenth and i want to look good and not like the newb i am and to make bgirls good i've gotten one to many "girls can't breakdance" in my 1st yr of bgirling

You could skip a beat or two with a jumping toprock and come back on beat later. Another thing is just to feel the motion and flow that you remembered when you didn't think of breakdancing as a difficult thing. "Some girls can't breakdance, but they've been gifted in other ways, just like some guys". One more thing...is to make your team look good, but if your not good, don't sweat it. Prepare for battle.

I would add some advice as well, but I have a lot to work on with my own toprock. And, I'm sure what I would have to say would be posted already.

do not try to toprock nice. i REPEAT. DO NOT try to toprock nice.

you can fake the funk and force the beats but after awhile, people can tell. and i'm saying its better to look average than someone who forces it. someone have rhythm and others don't. thats a line elvis presley himself said. it isn't bad if you don't just work on your tops enough so it doesn't hold you back.

don't think about what you're gonna do. don't think damn i'm gonna rip some power on this kid. don't think imma impress that chick there. be in the moment and think tops only. flow to the music. and by flow to the music i mean if you know the song good enough, you can flow to it hitting beats. if you think about that beat too much it shows. truly be in the moment because when you top, thats all that should matter.
