Question General swipes questions - 12-11-2006, 11:13 PM

I started learning breakdance recently, and I've gotten a few moves, but I still can't quite get swipes.

I have been trying to learn 2 legged swipes from the Breakdancing Step by Step DVD, which provides good instruction, but I have a few problems/questions.

1. When I start the first swipe I crouch down, then lean back so that my knees are completely bent; however, at the end of my first swipe, my knees are closer to 90 degrees and I am in more of a crab position. From here I find that there is more weight on my hands and I can't seem to get any swipes going.

2. I feel like I am not getting my legs up very much. On the first (and only) swipe I do land on both feet, but if I keep going I keep landing on my side.

3. If my six step goes counter clockwise, which way should my swipes go (i.e. which arm should be planted first)?

4. Right now I rotate to the right (so left arm goes over to right side), while kicking up with the right leg, but I seem to get less air when I do that and I can't land at all. Is the kick an aspect of all swipes or just certain ones?

5. What does "hump the air" mean?

thanks much

i'm no swipe expert, i can't really do em either =( but i think can some what answer 5and 2 at the same time
p.s i'm only guessing!
i think humping the air means that while you're in the air, you try to push your lower portion more in the air, which also gets your legs higher in the air
