Lightbulb Air Swipe Guide - 03-31-2006, 10:41 AM

This is my first attempt at a guide, but I'm not saying this so people don't go apeshit on me, I'm saying it because if I left something out, it's because this is my first time.

Stretches:
As with most moves, trying to do an air swipe without proper stretching can result in certain things, which I have no need to say, you all being bboys and girls.

Pre-requisite:
Someone who has never tried the swipe motion might find it difficult to do an Air swipe, therefore I say, you NEED one legged swipes to learn it this way, because I only do one legged swipes.

**Reason why (For everyone who just wants to learn the damn move skip the stuff with the stars, I’m just putting in my 2 cents)
You need the torque and twisting motion and the proper placement of your arms etc for an air swipe. The best way to acquire these is through a regular swipe. Duh. But if you don’t believe me, everyone who can do swipes, try swiping the other way and see how difficult it is (Unless you can go both ways, then I applaud you)**

This swipe guide is teaching a one legged air swipe to the right where your left arm is the swinging arm and your right leg is the one extended.

Step 1: Beginning

*step forward with left leg
*twist torso to the left
*put both arms to the left, make sure they aren’t just hanging at your side

Step 2: unwinding and kicking

*Kick your right leg straight as your drop kicking a midget. Do not bend your leg and thrust out, like a karate kick. **This is for height, at least, that is what I use this kick for*
*As you kick with your right you will notice your body dropping back almost parallel to the floor.
*First to touch the ground is the right hand. Some people make the mistake in thinking that in this move you actually jump all the way back, that’s not true, you’re just setting up a swipe position, from standing.
*Judge the distance, when your right hand is about to hit the ground, launch with the left foot UP not to the RIGHT.
*By now your whole body should be in the air, and your left hand should land, brining along with it a lot of torque.
*there will be a moment in time when you’re in a 45 degree handstand position with your head pointing at the ground. I used to focus on the ground while rotating my legs, but that doesn’t help. Look off to your right when you’re in this position for an easier rotation.

So a quick summary on this section (Where I’m going to get screwed over by you guys the most, because it’s hard to explain)

*Kick right leg
*Swing right arm
*Swing left arm, unwind torso, and kick with left foot

Step 3: Landing

*Land as you would any swipe
*Focus on really twisting your hips if you did not get enough power to twist already with the initial unwinding.
*When you’re in that 45-degree hand stand position looking to the right, really focus on bringing your right leg down and keeping your legs straight, back arched.

Step 4: Moving on
After you land this, the impact can either be extremely hard or very light, I use Air swipes as my drop into foot work, so i go into my footwork while my buddies however use air swipes to kip ups to air swipes to kip ups. Like godly rubber bands, but not.

Well, first guide, hope it helped, I’ll add like a tips section and common problems section after i get some reply. I know the second section wasn’t the cleanest, so questions and feed back would be nice, thanks!

firstly, i just skimmed over this, so i could be wrong.
secondly, it's not good to be using degrees and angles to measure shit in a guide since everyone kinda has their own form of doing it and it depends on your level of mastery of the move.
and thirdly, it just sounds like a 1 leg swipe to me. and i guess 1 legged swipes are a good prerequisite to...1 legged swipes?

Don't get your point, thanks for the feedback but the reason why im using the one legged swipe is because IMO it is harder than a two legged and it looks doper

Actually this guide may have helped me. I was trying to figure out how to soften my initial landing and I think I know how due to your guide.
