swipes question, plz answer -
03-24-2006, 07:52 PM
ok guys, I think I'm pretty much set, except my arms don't move fast enough... and I also am not placing my hands in the right place when I throw them over. So two things:
1. How can I get my arms to move faster so I can catch myself more comfortably? I always have to keep one arm down for too long and then it turns my swipes real ugly
2. Where do I put my hands down so I can spin a little bit instead of spinning like... 3 degrees everytime/where do I put my hands to get the correct body movement?

Post a vid.
1.Which arm stays on too long and which direction?
2.3 degrees is a very little bit, that's 1/120 of a circle n I dun get what you mean by spinning 3 degrees every time. Your hands should be on the ground so that your arm is perpendicular to the ground and your body.

ok, I was exaggerating the 3 degrees... but the foot on the ground is my left foot, which is supposed to make me spin counterclockwise, correct? And so let me go through my motions:
starting position
left foot on the ground, right foot sticking out
left arm in the air, right arm on the ground (this can be backwards.. some people like more swing and have the right arm in the air so they can swing both arms)
So I swing my left arm to my right and hop off my left foot and do the swipe, then after everything is landed, my right arm comes back around to restart the swipe, but I always have to keep my left arm behind and beneath me for a little bit too long because I'd be off balance... and if I try to bring that arm around with my other arm, it's a tiny bit too slow and my arms are a little shaky

Used to have that hand placement problem, the thing is you gotta really focus on where you put your hand, keep fooling around with the placment until it feels comfortable. I dont place my hand im already air borne by the time my secondary hand comes to hit the ground, i land wherever it distributes the weight best and i go from there. a reason why your swipes might look fugly is cuz after you bring your second arm over, you jump back and your body contracts, therefore giving u a smashed up swipe which looks like some gimped up kid rolling on the ground.
I dunno
and three degrees, i agree with that guy with that weird name up there, that's 1/120th of a circle, andthat means if you want to do consec swipes you'll have to do 120 of them beefore going full circle. Thats alot.
Anyways get a vid up post more questions ill try to help
