Well I'm not too good or anything, but when I started, I just concentrated mainly on buffing up my strength. Like do lots of hand stab stuff or the crab position. Builds pretty good foundation, and leads you to many stuff. As for style.. just watch vids?

hey! I was starting with baby freeze and windmill. I don´t know how good you are in doing handstand. But practice this and learn how to do hollowbacks and inverts. I was starting at the wall, going to the bridge-position and up again. I do workouts for my back and belly as well. Standing on my head..., just like this. Are you dancing alone? - so I think watching vids is very good. So you can get a feeling...not only for style. So search for nice vids and look what you really want to do next. Try and try ´n try. best wishes...

Work on footworks. All variations of basic footworks. Six step, 4 step, 3 step, 2 step, 12 step, pompo, and coffee grinder.

Dont watch vids and copy, that's biting, heavily frowned upon. However if tyou watch it for ideas and a basic foundation, be my guest, (Biting rprob has been mentioned already, i just couldnt resist saying somethign about this)
And why is this in the swipe section?
:P
Id say work on tops, i just realized how much i need them ive got good foot and power but no tops

Okay, don't watch vids for style. But do watch vids to learn power. It's like the fastest way ever.

*****ATTENTION*****
lol, First start with all different toprocks, battle rocks, dance type moves, then your footwork moves, 6 step, 3step, 12 step (runaround) and a couple of basic freezes, baby freeze, elbow freeze, and maybe bronco's and helicopters(coffe grinders) too.
get all that smooth and so your real good at it then go jam somewhere with real people, this will help you more than a forum! good luck!!

ive been bboying for 3 months and most of the moves you see below i did on my first tries such as flare, 1h handsprings, kip ups, headslides and a few others. I could do these mainly because i first explored allot with moves trying new ones everyday, sometimes up to 3-4 new moves a day. Id fail allot of course but there were some that i could do or learned the day i tried. I blame this on my level of athleticsm that i have retained through most of my life, and that i am 1/2 asian (though it might be a myth that asians are just naturally versatile in athletics, but allot of people believe it so, including many doctors ive talked to). Now as for your learning, I watch vids and guides frequently. Sometimes watching the same guide over and over and over again. Especially important for moves like flares to watch insturctional videos because theres just so much to remember. And if you hear or see somthing you didnt notice before like "OHH THATS how you swing your leg" or "oh THATS how he keeps his legs up". TRY IT OUT IMMIDIATELY. Trial and error is a great aspect to learn from. Remember, you learn more from your failures and losses than you do from succeeding. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!

Well, you can watch vids for style without biting. The person watching doesn't need to copy or bite the style down to a "T," but by watching a bunch of different people's style in sets, it can give the person an idea about a certain way of executing a movement he hadn't thought of yet. You can build off what you see and learn, and eventually become more well rounded. Ultimately, your bboy horizon will be broadened, and many more doors on the dancefloor will open up.
