The kicking in the swipes -

Alright. Well I got the basic swipes down, when using the right leg to spin right and vice versa. What I can't seem to get it the leg I will "kick" with going the opposite direction from my leg's side. i.e. using left leg to kick, and going clockwise.
How exactly am I suppose to get up in the air? I can't seem to get my leg up in the air. I try to get my right leg down to get the height, but as I spin, my left leg doesn't go far enough, and brings me straight down on all fours.
I'm guessing that that's the air swipes, where, in my case, lift my right leg up, and using my left leg to kick CW.
Is it all in the back? Or the hips pushing your legs up, and then kicking CW? Or do I just need my leg strength in order to thrust my lower body upward in order to create that spin after the kick?
Air moves us.
Fire transforms us.
Water shapes us.
Earth heals us.
