SO TRUE!
Ohh and in the hallucinogens thread i lied, i love drugs
yes it is very possible to permanently injure yourself doing any power move.
lots of bboys end their careers by being careless or by forgetting about the risks themselves or by continuously pushing beyond their limits at a pace they can't control.
headspins are particularly problematic because the neck is involved.
doing 1 or 2 is not so bad but i believe continuous headspins, especially fast ones, run a higher risk of serious long term damage to your spinal cord.
i don't think many people become great spin kings but the risk is always there for everyone.
in a worst case scenario for someone who doesn't have his whipping coordinated with his body, the momentum in his legs could snap his neck.
in most cases , many bboys will torque their body in two pieces (usually the lower body for whipping) and at some point, they will lose control or balance, accidentally turning their neck as they spin.
this creates 3 turning components (lower body, upper body, and head) instead of the normal 2.
a normal headspin has 2 revolving components at the whipping stage: the lower body (legs) which whips the upper body into the spin.
a 3rd revolving component, the head, is added when people are tired, lose control or balance, or push themselves.
for example:
if you turn your head as far as you can to your right or left, your neck has reached its limit. what would happen if someone suddenly pulled it back even further with enough force to hurt you? this is basically what happens when people lose balance or go for that extra spin for more torque when the body is not properly aligned (specifically the neck).
if you watch pro headspins, they have to get power from the whipping but once they start spinning, the body is one and no longer torquing in 2 separate pieces.
the problem is, most amateurs don't have the balance or strength to control the spinning as well as the elites can so they're head starts to revolve.
this is the specific and probably most dangerous part of headspins.
even pros can mess up if they don't take it seriously.
now you know, so be careful and take it slow. don't get impatient or discouraged.
learn smarter, not harder and when you do get the move, practice harder and even smarter.
the disclaimer has never changed.
Yes, but only if you don't know what you're doing. If you actually have a good set of brains, you'll know where to draw your lines and step back to heal.
...i found out from my ex football coach that it only take 4 pounds of preasure to break your neck!!! i always think about that now when i dod halos and head drills

well dont be afraid as long as u do everything right u should be fine and stop when u need to oh yea dont push urself to hard the first time lol u gotta let ur neck muscles grow XD
I wouldnt worry about injuring yourself, just be sure to stretch everytime you do them, preferably before and after if you wanna be real safe. and just dont do anything stupid. Some dude back in the 80's broke his neck by attempting a backhandspring to headspin. Dont try stupid things you arnt sure on and you'll be fine, if you want to be more safe, do headbalance and strengthen your neck. it takes a while to build neck muscle, but if you get enough of it, it can help with other breaking moves. E.G: back head spring, assuming you want to even attempt though
Yeah Headspins are deff a scary thing, I was doing a freeze once and I lost my balance and flipped over and I was thanking God so much that my neck didn't snap.
I was putting a lil weight on my head and my body flipped over heel towards back of head and I came down like that. It was scary.
