dumbest shit ever to do headspins on carpet.. do u realize that when u swing ur legs... that first ur lower body moves(ur legs...) then ur upper body(ur chest/ head) move to catchup.. so look at it this way.. if someone actually went to do a headspin on carpet.. heres wut wuld happen.. they wuld swing there legs.. there legs wud go around a little.. then their upperbody/ head wuld go to spin.. and it wud have so much friction(because of the rug) that it could possibly break.. so dont ever do it on carpet.. practice headstands and other stuff on carpet.. just not headspins

headspins on carpet? -
09-03-2007, 12:28 AM
i know this is probably a pretty stupid question but is it possible to learn headspins on carpet? it's the only place i have to practice. i know i won't be able to get them very fast or very many but i really just wanna learn them well enough that if i had the opportunity to do them on a decent floor i would be able to. my current record is 1/3 of a spin and then i fell down after. i kinda had to almost force my head to spin with my hands (i guess you could call it forceful tapping maybe?) i don't wear a hat or helmet when practicing just because i don't want to slow myself down any more than i already have to. i know this could cause hairloss, scabs, rugburn, etc but it's a risk im willing to take for now. so does anyone know (preferably from experience) if it's possible to learn headspins on carpet? also any tips on learning headspins on carpet (or just in general) would be greatly appreciated. thx!

when you're starting headspins, don't do them on carpet because you're not going to spin well at all. Especially taps. Use a helmet. Looks gay, works charms.
You can do headspins on carpet provided you have the momentum for it( I do mill to headspin on carpet and I can get at least 2 rounds), but it hurts and is probably bad for your hair.

ok... if u seriously cant find any other spot to practice these (which i highly doubt) you could wear a helmet and practice them on carpet at your own risk. Helmets reduce friction on carpets but still arent as good on carpet as they are on lino. I suggest getting a small patch of linoleum and putting it on your carpet then maybe practicing headspins from there. But still, Im pretty sure you can find another place to practice them. But if not, hey, go for it and try them on carpet.
You're probably going to learn them at a slower rate because of this, and injuries can occur. Helmets slide on carpet so while you are spinning you can slip/slide and fall. I advise you not to try it without a helmet, I know a beanie won't work on carpet, and doing it without anything on will just limit your rotations to like 1-2 (Unless you drill).
Good luck and be safe.

well the only other place i can practice is at the dance class i take. but thats only once a week for an hour and we're usually practicing for whatever performance is coming up. and it's a hiphop class although we do do a little a bboying from time to time. most weeks my teacher gives us some time at the end of class to practice our bboying but thats only gonna be like 5 mins a week so i probbaly can't make much progress with that. lately i've been practicing (on carpet) with a bandana on because it doesn't slow me down too much and it does offer a little bit of protection. i'm not even gonna try it with a helmet on carpet because i hardly have enough space to practice mils so a helmet would just cause me to fall into all the stuff around me... or at least i think it would. but thx for the tips! i'm determined to get this move so i guess it's okay if it takes me forever to get it.

Headspins on Carpet = Neck Injuries on a stick?
I would suggest practicing outside somewhere becuase t least it won't be carpet and you will never be BBoying on carpet. The BBoy I know who does headspins used a helmet on lino to learn (which has already been suggested, i know) but that seems like the best way to learn to me...

u can practice on ur headspings on the carpet if u want but u just wont get alot of momentum in ur spins. i hav no hard tile at my house so i just cut out a box and put it on the floor and practice on it instead
=my motto hav fun and dont giv up. patience is the key=

meh they rnt bad on carpet... just cant spin as fast and it pulls my hair, but if you need to practice it there it shouldnt affect it that much. i just wouldnt ONLY practice them on carpet. use card board if you can.

Depends what kind of carpet and hair you have. IF you are shaved, then you can just do headspins about anywhere.
If you have some hair, like a buzz cut, ONLY do headspins on hardpacked carpet, not soft fluffy carpet.
If you have a lot of hair, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT do headspins on carpet at all. ESPECIALLY SOFT CARPET.
Soft carpet will keep your head "glued" in its position and the only thing that won't be turning is that head. And boom. Snapped neck ftw.
SOOO IF you want to die bboying, do a headspin on a soft carpet with long hair. LOL IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEATHS

Mmhnm I learned Headspins with a helmet and cutting board. Then went to bare-head and carpet because getting all that stuff is annoying. I think Its OK to start on a carpet, but now I'm at the part where I can use a beanie on a smooth surface. But I always go back to carpet for just a mini session with myself.
Get that shit out of here.
