the most i've ever gotten was 10...the only tip i can really give is to whip your main leg hard and go right into stick position thats what i do

If you learn how to tap you can get much more spins. Because you can start spinning faster and faster untill boom you drill. If you go straight from headstand to drill you will only get about 4 MAX.

It takes an athlete to breakdance, but an artist to be a bboy.

i dont think ur right is harder to drill than to tap I think cause drill you gotta have more balance or somethin by the way ill soon try and practice headspin drills cause they look good unlike tapping them but ima have 2 be careful

Of course, but it'd be hard as fuck if you have your legs against eachother way high in the air like this: ||

How is tapping harder? I'm curious to understand this concept.
Tapping headspins (drill or not), give you a moment to reposition your balance while in motion with your hands as the counterbalance point. I can go much faster without tapping, but I will always lose my balance much more quickly. So I guess I wouldn't agree that it's harder, I would agree that its different and makes some aspects harder and others easier.

I'm just another up-and-comer paying dues.
I think I'm possibly the slowest learner on all of bboy.org haha.

Okay, honestly I think that pencils or drills are a little easier than tapping. Can you post a vid of what you are doing now then maybe I can help, but do you know how ice skaters spin really fast and they wrap one leg around the other well that is what you do when you drill,

get your balance and then do one whip but instead of leaving your legs out bring them up with your ankles wrapped....wow this is hard to describe. look at my demo reel on my page I do them a few times in there for an example of what I am talking about. But it is the same principal as ice skaters use except you are on your head. if you have strong taps though it helps with your whip. You need one good whip to get a decent amount of drills out of it.

One thing that someone once told me is you really have to commit to it, don't just flail your legs up and expect to go somewhere you really have to want to do it. I was practicing my headspins and taps the other day going into them from standing up and I keep dropping one leg. I love doing drills though they are so much fun. When you hit some good ones you just get a rush.

Well I suppose I got face-owned right there.
I just still don't understand how it's easier.

What principle of physics makes it easier to do it in that way? I suppose it means I'm doing something wrong.

No, I agree with you Madd, it is different. Two completely different moves. I am not sure how to answer your question in "physics" terminology....

I would think that because you have much more to worry about in taps... balancing, whips, hands, not dropping your legs or hips (which is what I do often) and your timing it makes it more "difficult" to reach that point where you can just ride it...

Opposed to just whipping once and drilling it straight up with your legs wrapped. Although you can drill much faster and longer when you have the momentum from tapping if you can stay balanced.

I am still learning though, I have an understanding of it but I have not mastered it by any means. LOL I will though!! I am starting to get my taps a lot better. I just have to get out of some bad habits.

Anybody can do a rotation of drills on his/her first attempt.
If you just started practicing headspins, you'll find that the CATCHING part is pretty tough. Though advanced drilling (like 15 rounds) is harder than tapping and normal no handed headspins ('gliding')
