practice for headstanding - 04-14-2005, 05:07 PM

Im first learning this move and one of the guides say to be able to headstand for like a minute. I can only do it for like 2 seconds. Whats a way to practice your balance on your head with your hands?

make sure your hands are in front of your head and not on the sides of it, make sure your putting your legs in the 'V' position also

Yeah, it is really important to make a V-shape with your head and hands. That way you won't flip over, and fall on your back.

This could also help.

Put your head on the ground, and place your arms widely, now try to place your knees on your elbows. When you succeed at that, you can concentrate on the ballance, and then lift your legs up. Do that slowly, so you won't lose balance.

Yo practice on a wall.... when your comfortable with that do it with out a wall until you can hold it forever not a minute forever and you have to be able to move your legs in various positions to make sure that your balance is on a super saiyan level so when you spin or do freezes or whateva then you will have the skill to pull it off easily and still stay balanced.

Yo all of above is correct just prop yourself against the wall, try headstanding on a couch cushion at first and slowly remove it. It will hurt at first but it will be more comfortable for you after a while. Try watching tv while doing headstands it will make you more comfortable with it and strengthen your neck a lot. If you watch tv upside down you will completely forget that you are doing a headstand. It becomes natural to you and you will easily be able to spin after much practice with this.

the only way to be able to do head stands is to practice it
Beleive me , practicing make the balancing involuntry like standing on ur legs
its not about technique its about practiciing and time
in th begining of this year was very afraid of doing it and falls alot , after just pracitincing without any technique now i can stand on my head 4 about 5 minutes without falling
So just keep doin it and fall

well, for me PERSONALLY.........i think u should not use a wall.......dats how i learnt it.....dats if u feel comfortablw which way but i suggest not to use it....and wen u get into a headstand position.......dun put ur legs to a V yet......bend them so u can get more control........and u will have to find the most comfortale positon on ur head to stand.............the postion of ur hands are like a triangle......head and two arms infront of u(forms an triangle).....ur palms should be about just out of shoulder width.......then u just thrust ur legs up and stand on the area on which ur head is most comfortable..........and if u feel like u are about to fall......its normal.....as u practice more......use ur hands to put your weight on it.....until u feel that u are good enouhg......then u try put all the weight on ur head.....all has been stated.....i dun think there will be anymore questions if u follow this properly......

hope this helps...

use a wall to get balance for a headstand and move away from the wall once you get comfortable. You should be able to hold a headstand for about 30 seconds at least, then try spinning on a slick cusion(not carpet, ouch) slowly at firsts, keeping your balance then faster, eventually try letting your arms off the floor.

i strongly suggest u DONT use a wall. maybe u can use it to help get ur head used to the pressure, but DONT use it for balance. Think of it, when u use a wall, ur balance is slightly, if not ON the wall itself instead on concentrating on the balance u want (without the wall). This is just how i feel about handstands and headstands. The only way that i can learn it is to take on the moves head on <- (no pun intended). If i use a wall i feel like im not doing it correctly in the long run.

ahh dont use wall u dont need it for headstand!

make a triangle with ur hands and head, place ur knees onto ur tricep area/elbows and left the legs up, make a V with ur legs for more balance

I can't even do a headstand on a wall! I have no upper body strength. Its total shit. I should work out and stuff, right? Is that the only way?

two ways:
1. keep trying headstands and youll build the necessary strength (takes a while)
2. do lots of handstand pushups

Unless your practicing Headspins, why would you wana learn this? Unless your aimming for the head freeze with the legs moving in kool motions.
