Question Headspin Problems - 03-29-2005, 04:33 PM

When I stand on my head and start spinning,
my head doesnt balance good (I think) because I start falling to the right all the time so I have to keep on focusing on my head keeping balanced and then I forget the legs and because of the balance focus they go like crazy
and then I fall....

My other problem is that when I (if it works) start making speed with my hands, its no problem and I make alot of speed,
but when I pull my hands away I inmediatly fall down..

so I don't know if my head is just not shaped the right way
or I just can't balance it.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for me?
It would really help me out.

Respect,
Amici

i do not suggest using a helmet to learn this move. I see a lot of people build dependency on a helmet. And if you pull that out at a jam you are gonna get laughed at. But its up to you.

You just need to spend more time on your head. Balance is your problem.... and its not that you are doing something wrong or that your head isn't shaped the right way... its that you justa rent used to being on your head. Just practice doing a headstand and WALKING your hands slowly to make you spin slowly. Do that a lot until you get comfortable with it.

DONT WHIP...learn to use your upper body (when your upside down, your lower) to turn you, when your bodies straight your gonna want to turn your upper body (NOT LEGS AND HIP, YOUR USING YOUR BACK AND HANDS) so you can grip the floor and use that to turn you, after you can whip your legs and grip, whip, grip..

You definitly need to practice on balance... but if you try to let go you will always fall unles you meet a certain speed... the faster you go the less you have to work on balance but the slower you go the more balance you have to put in.... This is the only problem I have with headspins because when I focus on speed my headspins seem to hop and dat shit be hurting after a while but by reading your post you have a long way to go before you get to the letting go part

Ya well the only thing i have to say bout this thread is that you need to trust yourself learn to let go slowly as Da1NdOnLe has stated. Slowly spin and as you spin let go FALL its ok to fall a few times just get used to it. If you dont want to fall then DONT. You can also do amazing things when you are pissed off. So if you cant just NOT fall then have someone punch you in the face or in the stomach. Something that will frustrate you and make you do amazing crazy things. Its all mentality and practice if you have practice you still need the mentality to let go and just spin. If you have both you can unleash great things. Thanks for all the tips great advice given.,
