Problems with handspins !!!!!!!!!!!! - 12-21-2003, 06:14 PM

Hey ya, so, I finally got to practice breakin', I already got the 6 step, the top rock, a little bit the valdez and tha backspin, I also got the knee drop, some wave dance moves, but my handspin is terrible !!!, so terrible that I can't even do it, you see, I do all tha steps done in the vid, but, when I am on my arm and I want to lift up my legs, I just cant, If I do it, I would fall, cuz of the weight, but, I really can't do it, and it hurts like hell on my hand, I don't know what I am doing wrong, please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey sup--i maybe got some advice hope it helps:
--try workin on turtles....some people, like me for example, got turtles b4 handglides. i mean they'll build up yur wrist strength and put your body in motion, even if a little...then once you have a relative idea of how to turtle, try some handglides

--another approach is to maybe play around with where your elbow is in you stomach. change the position of your elbow in your torso...play around with it and see if theres a position that you can hold better.

--take it old school and just keep holding handglide or try to hold handglide positions. most people don't seem to think so but every little bit counts. every time you try to do something you're getting better. just make sure you're going in the right direction. you don't wanna practice in the wrong way. get some videos, look up move descriptions, and that's also what bboy.org is for. but yeah just practice practice practice...after you been breakin awhile you'll see how much practice helps--i look back at clips from me like a year ago and see how much i've improved, and it amazes me.

get on you knees, put your arm in between your legs and lean foward on it so it ends up somewhere in ur gut...

you should try to do baby freeze on 1 hand and hold it ...cos theres balance involved in this move too

try turtles, lock both elbows together in your gut,
fingers will face out to sides,
your on your knees and you lean forward slowly,
legs stay bent,
keep back straight and stiff,
spread your legs out(but keep them bent),

you should balance here

after you get this balance part you'll get to figure out how to turn yourself

propz to bboynosy 4 actually helpin when i 1st got started and asked 4 help with hand spins ppl insulted me and gave me basically no help

what helps me is too start off with spinning on your hand with your legs almost near the ground also if u lift weights 4 a while it helps to build armstrength and try to flex your abs when spiining so that ur stomach doesnt cave and lose balance

I say just stick with the freeze and try and hold it for as long as u can until u get to the point where it doesnt take so much effort to hold it and u can breathe easy with that elbow in your gut then the spinning should come pretty easy

just practice on turtle and thats all... or sit on ur knee's n' place ur hands afront and put ur head n' just ask a friend to pulll ur legs up then tell him to release you're legs ... but with caution
