Updated Headspin Drills Taps Guide - 10-29-2003, 09:00 PM

This is my first attempt at helping people with their headspins and my first guide so here goes nothing!

Ok first of get on your head and lock your legs straight in the air and balance yourself with your hands.

This will help you find your center of balance and also build up your muscles in your forearm and neck.

Don't I repeat Don't keep doing it over and over if your head hurts.

Its natural for your head to hurt because your are most likely doing something that it hasn't done before and it requires new muscles and getting use to it.

Also holding your place even if you have your balance is good for gaining strength.

So If your feeling confident that you've found your center of balance then you can unlock your legs and spread them apart like a split except a little bit more relaxed and not locked.

The reason they aren't locked is so its easier to use the strength of your legs to gain momentum.

When your legs are in this position try moving your hands and rotating yourself this way.

This will get you use to spinning on balance. Just doing this alone helps with being able to control the angle at which you spin so you won't topple over very quickly.

After you think your ready for the next step then its time to actually spin.

Get in the same position as before and this time twist your waist a little bit in the opposite direction that you are spinning(e.g. if you're spinning clockwise then twist counterclockwise).

This adds speed and momentum.

Then whip your legs around in a fast motion the way you are twisting and extend your hands for extra balance.

Make sure to catch yourself if you feel like you are about to fall.

This may not come naturally but eventually it will be easier to tell when your are about to fall and evetually you won't be falling!

For taps you might wanna practice floating a little bit then sorta "throw" yourself by pushing your body with your hands.

By the way don't worry about your whole body weight on your head. When you spin it creates a force and your whole weight isn't being pressured on your head.

The faster you spin the less you feel your weight.

I also recommend practicing this with shoes because the extra weight on your feet help you get a fast whip when you spinning.

TAPS TIPS
If you want to do tips then when you get to the point when your about to spins let your hands off the ground but let your fingertips drag on the ground.

This makes it alot easier for you to learn to catch yourself when you are about to go for your next tap and gets you use to catching yourself.

This is my first guide so If you think Im not right on something please let me know. Ciao.

haha nah man it'll stop after a couple of weeks or even 1 week depending on how much u practice your spins, and that usually happens when you find your center of balance on your head.

i wouldnt practice balancing without ur hands cause is easy to balance while spinning and it takes alot of pressure off your neck

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

headspin (i'm getting confused) - 12-09-2003, 09:37 PM

i've been breaking for a while and this question is directed to everyone but i guess especially syndromn since he posted the whole explanation.

U're explanation for headspin is EXACTLY wat i thot a headspin should be and exactly wat i saw others practice (in real life) and others perform (in sick clips)

But then...some friend told me that you actually spin u're body first and u're leg follows...so that's totally different from sping u're leg and body follows...

i understand wat meh friend's saying and it makes sense up to a point...(mostly cuz he's a really good and experienced breaker)

but i think the method syndromn posted is the right one....and that's the one i practice--twisting u're legs the opposite way and whipping u're legs the proper way.
SO BEAR WIT ME HEAR BROS BUT UHH THAT'S MEH FRIST QUESTION IS IT LEG WHIPP AND BODY FOLLOWS OR OTHER WAY AROUND????

and also i could just whipp meh legs for all i want and i'd do like 1 and half rotation and fall down...but i thought that isn't a good practice...the whole point is not to see how many u can do but to try to get the damn balance first...so i thought even thot that even tho i could do 1 and half ... i'd just do half and tap ... half and tap and practice that untill i'm perfect and maybe go onto 1 and tap... btw if u dont' get a word i'm saying then i understand cuz as a korean....i think of too many things at once...
waz never good in writing ...

if u actually read all that thx bro... i can't believe someone would actually read all that cuz i cant read more than 10 sentences before i fall asleep

HELP ME if u can Peace~~

when you wind yo legs up, yo swing them around then your torso follows, but then your torso gets ahead of yo legs to catch, so they lead yo legs, this way when you tap your legs are ready to sorta swing again, eventually you will spin 4 longer an longer.

different bboys have different ways of learning...some whip their legs before their body gets motioned...and some use thier upper body and hips twisting to make the legs follow...da most common example i've seen is da one in which bboys twist upper body furst...and legs follow....i do the same as well..it helps to continue tapping...but like i said earlier..everybody is different...
