Arrow Practice drills for footwork combos (ultinoobs only) - 07-02-2008, 03:20 AM

This guide is probably completely useless to anyone who isn't relatively new to bboying and doesn't have good footwork.. I'm basically just gonna highlight some drills and their effectiveness to my training- being a mostly footwork-oriented bboy.

>
A few bboys I've met have some pretty good moves, but don't know how to link them together. This is apparently a big problem with alot of newbies.
What you need to remember is to keep things simple at first, don't get too fast or too tricky or it'll look sloppy. Practice slowly and get faster with time. Onto the drills..

The basics:
6-step>3-step
- These are two of the most basic footworks. Just continuously practice going two circles of 6 step, then two of 3 step. Keep working on that until you can get some decent speed up.

6 step>3 step> 2 step
- Basically the same as above, but only do one circle of the first two then go into your 2 step. For the unlearned ones, a 2 step(counter-cw) is the first two steps of a 3 step with a coffee-grinder motion applied on the second step. This is a great way to gain momentum for moves like swipes or grinder>headstand

2 step> cc + turnover>zulu spin
-You can figure that one out for yourselves. CC's aren't hard to do fast... After 4 cc's, just do a cw turnover (zulu spin with one leg straight) and use that to enter your zulu spins..

That's very basic, but it's all i could be bothered to write.

Final Notes:
-Mix it up a bit. Find some guides for 6 step/3 step elbow rock or learn some other variations like commando 6 step or 3 step kicks. These are the most basic of drills and only serve as a beginner's guide to linking footwork.

-Once you've got a bit more style, work on hitting the beats. This is one of the most integral parts of bboying. Try hitting the snare beat on every 3rd step or shuffling during your cc's.

-Keep fucking practicing non-stop.

This is my first guide, so any crits are welcome. Save hiphop: Drop knowledge.

oh p.s. Try going 6 step to baby freeze to finish off... For ccw footwork, keep ur right hand down in your 6 step till the third step and stab into the top of your hip as u enter the fourth and put your left hand down.. AND SPREAD THOSE FUCKIN FINGERS.. That's what gives you your balance

OK guide, but most of it is pretty self explanatory. The elbow rock 6 step doesn't look very good IMO, but I guess there has to be some people who can pull it off.

The way I got used to linking all my footwork together is not only by practicing predetermined 3 move combos, but also by having a friend call out 3 steps at a time that I would have to perform. For example, when he calls out "5,4,7", I then 5 step->4 step-> 7 step and he immediately calls out 3 more steps like "2,CC,3" and I'd have to go right from the last combo into 2 step->CC->3 step. Focus is on form, and once you're used to it you can add speed. Very good for stamina as well.

Cheers. Everyone listen to that guy, he actually knows what he's talking about.. I use elbow rock moves just because it breaks the monotony of a whole set that's done on your hands. But yeah, your guide gobs all over mine and steals it's marshmallows.
