the most basic way to ride the music is...
pop on the snares. after 16 snare hits (four 8-counts), there'll be a change in the music. get ready to come up with a blowup/freeze by then, or to change the way you hit your moves. but you can't keep doing just that. carve your own path. whether you bboy or lock, the pattern remains as a good guide. |

hmm there is no real way of expalainin it but when u hear a song, it has certain beats claps and all like the other guys said. depends on how ur style is and how fast or slow u wanna do it or how obvious u want ur pops to be with the music and its rythm

Not necessarily true. You are talking about changes in 32-count measures. There are PLENTY of songs that do it in 16, 12, and even 8 counts...let alone others that have even different procedures. Dont generalize your dance based on this thought.

Chip i think hes talking about the quoting of his post.
And to that guy saying chip is being selective... You are trying to get people to focus on an ant on the window sill when theres an elephant in the room. Always look at the bigger picture. |

I'm new on this forum but i think i can add some clues on musicality.
First please, excuse my english, i'm french ![]() As an exemple is better than words, look at this video of InventFmc on youtube : This IS musicality. At the begining of the song, there is no boom/clap and yet Invent is moving in phase with the music. I've started popping only for 3 month now but as a long time musician (drummer and guitarist), it's easy for me to understand musicality. The key is to find rythm where there no obvious rythm because everything can be turned into a rythm. For exemple, if u are already able to dance of boom/clap, my advice is to try to dance on music without drums and try to transform music notes into boom/clap. U will find that notes don't come randomly. U can turn them into differents patterns(speed change, height, etc) and the combination of these patterns can be interpreted as a rythm. The second key step is the expression. U have to interpret these pattern according to the emotion or the idea beneath it. Look at this video, there is a lot of sounds like the tape is being rewinded, and if u look a InventFmc, he looks like he is being rewinded too. He is totally in phase with the music -> musicality ! I hope my little contribution will help you guys. |
