memphis buckin - 08-18-2006, 04:52 PM

hi

i was browsing youtube and saw some videos of people "buckin"
it looks like popping but they glide a lot and move very fluidly
like this

Does someone know more about buckin? Cause i'd like to know more about it.

Thanks

Dunno, i have never heard of that dance before. I don't think it is one either. Correct me if im wrong. But that just looks like popping except he wasn't in beat at all. I think i've heard a song that says buck or w/e. Probably just got it from that. I don't listen to rap so. Anyone care to correct me go right ahead.

all you need to know about Buckin is that it's a hybrid of other styles. jit, slide glides, liquid, tuting and airwalks. Alot of people in Detroit are mad because they called out a few of people that buck on bitting ALOT of elements from Jit. Nothing to it really besides good gliding and airwalking. There isn't really any "popping" involved

Beatmaster, I dont know if you remember me, but we emailed back and forth a little bit and you were lacing me about bucking. I told you that in the video "Hood to Hood" in mephis they had some folks buckn, well this wasnt the best buckn clip i have seen, but ive seen a lot of buck'n lately on you tube, and i just want to say I really enjoy what you guys are doing out there in memphis, and whever else yall get down. When you told me about it, i didnt take you to seriously because everyone is always saying theres tight cats out there and when i see them im sadly dissapointed. But you were the only guy i have talked to on here where you didn't dissapoint, and i respect you for that mane. Alot of the shit i see on there reminds me a lot of what cats out in the bay were doing back in the late 90's. Keep doing yo shit mane, much love.
Meltin- one of the guys who didn't boo yo shit pimpn. Peace.
Question for you: Is bucking everything in the video with the glides, poses, heel toe, or is it more specific and the glides, etc is just some extra shit yall do?

Absolutely false. Buckin is a product of the Gangsta Walk.. a dance started in Memphis in the late 80's. Here's a video from around 1991 when Gangsta Walking started its transformation into G-Stylin/Jookin/Buckin. Crunchy Black of Three 6 Mafia still does this particular style:

OL' SKOOL Gangsta Walkin!!!

Here's a video from 1993, after the dance/style had became more evolved:

G-Style undaground video (1993)

This first guy in the blue has an "old school" style from the '96-'99 period:

More buckin from the M-town

Some from today's generation doing they thing:

bucking

Buckin has taken ZERO from Jit... the thought alone is insane and reaching. Techno isn't listened to in Memphis, and I'd be suprised if more than a handful of "well-traveled" people have even heard of Jittin. I could go on and say "if anything, Jittin copied from Buckin", but that would be just as silly... the two styles are world's apart.
