Popping into Toprock? - 06-28-2008, 07:35 AM

Is that possible? Coz I'm a pop locker as well as a breaker. I know a few poppers that are really good but are also breakers. But at every battle I've seen, they've never popped locked and then into a top rock..

I was wondering if this is considered "acceptable" in the b_boy community. Can you pop lock at the start of the battle then turn it into a top rock when versing a crew/opponent? If so then how?

Bboy Woo Sung (i think that's his name, the leader of Expression Crew) has "toprock" that looks more like popping than anything else. He basically pops then goes into floorwork.

Not exactly what you were asking, but close. Anyway I haven't seen anyone else do it. I'm not a Bboy, but I don't think it's very acceptable cuz it's like two different dances. You don't bring a knife to a gun-fight right? And vice-versa.

Agreed. Your reason still sounds relevant and specific on the answers I was looking for.

Any other points or advice still welcomed.

B-boy Sam uses popping and funk elements for his tops. He was a former popper.

First off, it is not "pop locking" there is no locking incorporated with popping. They are both different distinct dances.

Second of all why did you post this in the Funkstyle section under Locking. You are asking a bboy question, go to the bboy forums.

Poplocking is a correct term.

I doubt the thread starter knows what he's saying though.

It is NOT the correct term. "Poplocking" is what the media throws at you. Tell me in which aspects is there locking when you're popping? Likewise, as I said they are TWO different dances. Popping is in it's own category as is Locking. This is a stupid controversy with the term between the media and the actual.

I never said they were the same dance. Some areas call it poplocking. If you don't believe me then try convincing Slick Dogg that poplocking "is what the media throws at you."
