is 17 too old? - 05-11-2007, 11:28 AM

okay so i was wondering, like about 4 momnths ago i started on this quest to be really flexible, now im pretty okay, but i still cant do splits. my ultimate goal is to be flexible enough to do abstract bboying, but most really ultra flexible ppl usually start when their like 5. so is 16 like wayy to late to have started?

ive seen 45 year olds do perfect splits. just think about that every time you think you can't do it

extreme flexibility is something that takes a long time to attain and takes a lot of dedication to maintain. it really just depends how motivated you are.

i'm not into that crazy stretching shit, but you can look up guides for flexibility somewhere. basically, you gotta stretch every day for a couple hours. and if you go for a couple days without stretching, you'll lose a lot of flexibility.

i love bboying, but even i'm not motivated enough to stretch that much. good luck, peace.

Hmmm.

There is a difference between people who are flexible enough to do the splits and put a leg over there head and contortionists.

If you wanna be a cortortionist, your way too late.

Nearly everyone is capable with a big of strength and stretch training to achieve the splits and flexibility for "abstract bboying"

Not everyone can attain extreme levels of flex needed for contortion

i gotta agree with swiper... some of the craziest shit you wont be able to do for a long time... but some of the more basic abstract stuff you can easily obtain.

idk.. i was in tae kwon do and we had to do stretches everyday and it helped out alote. and there was stretch classes after my class and there were old. i mean old people there.. like in there 40-50's and they could stretch i tell yah. =p and a friend of mines stretched everyday for about 6 months and he could do the scorpian. (tip of toe reaches the back of your head). so im tellin you, you should spend extra time out of your day like for an example while your watching your favorite show and the commercial comes on that should be a good time for you to stretch. or wenever your not busy. =] hope this helps you

you're too old to ask this question!! actually you have more strength so it just take more time to practice on straightening ur legs ppl still start martial arts at 20 + and it's like hell to do it, so painful argggg....
i'm 17 too and i just start bboying for a month, it's like i've got more advantages since i've started martial arts 7 years ago
