hmmm both of you are half correct, but for anyone out there that's confused, i recommend you listen to VP for now because you really have to know what you're doing to use weights effectively for this stuff, otherwise you will probably fall into the trap of developing mass and/or strength that you can't use

practicing planche stuff (eg look on that dragondoor article), on the other hand, will probably only develop strength and endurance that you will use

i can't be bothered explaining the principle of specificity, but basically you get better at planches by practicing planches. You CAN get better at them by doing other stuff, but it won't work as quickly/efficiently

I totally, agree with you on everything you said there, VP... but that wasn't my point. I thought we were talking about no-footed pushups here, not planches. You're going to need to push your body away from the floor essentially in order to do a pushup.

rofl ok that last remark just made me lol

i quit weight lifting two weeks after i started bboying. I noticed that even though i surpassed almost everyone in the group in muscle mass and weight lifting strength, it gave me no advantages in what i could and could not do move-wise
i can bench my own weight, and can hardly do 35 normal pushups, while ppl who cant even bench 100lb do 50+ with leftover energy.

either way, planches = fucking hard and fucking cool. practice.

I'm saying it helps. It won't get you planche pushups and certainly isn't a substitute for doing planches, but it will help.

junior is so boring x.x

those are planche push-ups you need planches first, then if you have enough strength you can try doing push-ups in the planche position

okay, let's say benching makes you stronger, because it does. it won't make you THAT much stronger for planching, but it still does make you stronger. however, the extra mass that you'll gain will cancel that out, if not hinder you.

i don't think the hard part of planche pushups is necessarily the pushup motion is it?

it seems to me like the hard part is holding the planche, and then adding the pushup to it is mostly added skill...showing your control of the planche...the strength for the pushup would be improved by benchpress though, becuase bench press is practically a pushup. In terms of holding a static position...well...that has nothing to to with any kind of "motion" eg. lifting motion...because it's static....and i'm assuming that that is the difficult part here

I don't know, but I would imagine it would help a little because some of the muscle groups are the same, and it trains you to balance. I can't see why it would be needed, though i would learn it first anyway because it's easier.

Better yet, work on both at the same time

Also, added to that, i'm not even sure if you can call that a planche cuz if so, then I can do planches too.
