Angry Faking It! Popping battle - 02-10-2005, 04:15 PM

Hey y'all,

this is an open callout to any one who has been popping for around a year (or less, or a bit more, s'no matter). This is for slightly experienced noobies.

* The idea is the two entrants take it in turns to battle the opponent in a style NOT of their choosing..........a 1 minute (or more) set to be delivered in less than 24 hours from the style challenge, by both parties.

* The styles are chosen by the judges, rotating between them.
7 rounds..7 styles...3 judges pick a winner from each round.....now i can't say fairer than that can i guv?

* Any style is allowed from Locking to Slow Motion. Even liquid....

* We'll need 3 experienced judges.

* And dont step up if you cant deliver on time. If you post after the 24 hour period that round is forfeit. That means this battle will be over in 14 days for sure. I can do it - hit me back if you're game.

I DONT want this battle to go on forever. This is an exercise in raw learning and versatility.....

1) NO WEBCAMS - you just cant see properly. Borrow a camera for a week. Rent one. whatever.

2) No cuts no edits - no 20 second clips.....1 minute minimum raw dancing....over music...per round. And that is it.....

(I have a large web account with FTP if my opponent needs somewhere to post a bigger size video.....a bit of quality never hurt anyone.)

Many apologies for the late post guys - you would not believe the day i've had......my broadband is down. they told me it'd be fixed quick, but it still isn't 5 hours later. (700,000 people affected cos of a failed node or something)

I've ripped my pc to bits.......pulled out my raid card.......put in my old 56k modem - and i now have the joys of dialup to contend with.

MY vid was ready on time - you can tell by the daylight - its 9:50pm right now in the uk, and it gets dark at 4:30pm........I've had no benefit from VerBs comments.

Im uploading it now.......its going to take another 40 minutes or so to put it up im afraid......hey ho - i cant even watch crickets one until its uploaded cos it'll take hours.......

watch this space.....as soon as its posted you can bash out the next style.

peace

one frustrated mogwai.......

here ya go - :

BTW f**king glad I did this - I'm gonna learn SOOOOO much from this battle. But it is HARD HARD work!!!!!!! fun tho'......
pissed off with my shite saccing - and my face looks silly cos im staring at the mirror/camera screen(!) all the time rather than dancing naturally - but hey.....i'll film without a mirror next time......and turn the display away......

Nicely done Mogwai. Follow the advice I gave Cricket but one more thing. You had the tendency to wave your hands/arms a bit!!! Which ruined the concept of Filmore. If it weren't for that, I probably would have given you madd props for the first try of Filmore. Still giving you props though. But in my opinion Cricket had it goin on. My vote is for crazycricket.

As for your Filmore, it needs some work, though I can't blame you since Rice!! Just had to mention one of the hardest styles out their for Poppin' in my opinion. Anyways, you need to keep your arms together. Like they should never be seperated from each other. I see that you keep your arms to your sides. Always use both arms. Everytime on the beat, when you switch arm position also move your body position, this gives that illusion which is difficult to describe. All in all, its good for a first try even though you never knew what is was. Props to that yo.

The DocLock clip I learnt form said you can wave it......thats why I put it in there..it was intentional.....suppose i was tryin to be original.....i wanted to try and go beyond the foundation too quick i guess.....my usual learning curse! tnx.

VerB u can post the next style now.....its gonna take me a long time to get hold of any clips without broadband.

aha - both arms at the same time.........that will keep the two sides of your body isolated....and finish the illusion, right?

I think I get your point. And that applies to all arm movements?

ANYWAY - strobing.....

WHAT? i just woke up - its miday here in the UK.
I missed 6 hours already! oh well..... that gives the deadline at
6am monday morning.

considering our time differences, there wont be any splitting hairs over half an hour, and considering the lateness of my last post, cricket gets one get out of jail free card for a late post as well.

And my broadband is back on. So i can put my pc back together now.

to make up for the last one this one is being posted 6 hours early!
im off to bed now.....
bag'o'shite strobing from moggy.

http://www.alkemist.biz/myfirststrobing.wmv

i had more (strobed twistoflex and stuff) but no edits allowed really. the tagon at the end is actually from the start of the run - you'll see what i mean....im not using windows moviemaker again. It does "clever" things with your clips and screws your mind when you're tired - and i cant be arsed to fix it now its rendered.

!!!!! im putting my editing card back in wmm SUCKS.

what i found hardest:
1) keeping the flow even
2) not popping
3) doing it at full speed.
4) not biting elsewhere (thats a pretty easy move actually)
5) arm waves

and i did a whole set really good with all 3 (yes...3!) of my special moves (arm wave, twisto and liquid) pretty good but did a big screw up 30 seconds in - it put me right off, but i carried on and did pretty good for the rest - but no edits allowed i had to dump it. (there would have been 25 seconds of crap)

Who made these screwed up rules anyway?

oh.

you vote on what i post anywayz. peace.....
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

EDIT: LMAO i look constipated!

Nicely done, I'll point out the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Arm Wave:
I actually liked part of 30-40 seconds into the video. Your arm wave while strobbing was nice and clean. That was basically the only thing I enjoyed in the whole video.

Cons:
-Seizure?:
Around 1:25 your not Strobing!!! Your just doing a seizure type of thing, duno how to describe it really.

-Sticking in one spot:
When you strobe you don't just want to stand in one spot. Move around a bit, but maybe not too much. Pivot your feet and stuff.

Overall, good work for a first try!! Waiting for crazycricket; time is up man. Aahha!!
