move list wonderin if im good-bad-decent - 11-14-2004, 10:17 PM

Hey i been bboyin for about 2 months and i got 2 step, 3 step, 4 step, 6 step, pompo, really dope broncos, about 2 -3 one handed broncos, about 30-35 second handstand, walking handstand(5 -10 steps), about 2 second one handed handstand, headstand (forever), one headspin, appejacks(not sure if done right), decent coindrops, knee drop (unsure if done right), corkscrew drop, sweep drop, baby freeze+variations, turtle(froever),15 second one handed turtle, about 2 crickets, 1/2 or 1 windmill rotation, swipes (forever, who cant?), 1 legged swipes(2), worm+ variations except spazam, coffegrinders or whatever you call it, knee spins, a few original movez i been workin with that arent named yet, handglide(could only spin if i got a rag or sumthin, but i could cricket twice), one of my original moves is a threading one handed turtle(still workin it, has anybody done this yet?), front suicide, scorpion, back spin, butt spin, and I know these are all basic moves and stuff so dont blam it or whatever but i just wanted to know if this is a good move list for 2 months-cant toprock for my life even the basics

I am 13 , and the only bboy around. I do one swipe and everybody goes crazy, pretty funny right?

I remember when i first started bboying, I could flare, airflair, jackhammer, one handed elbow flare, windmill, do 23 head spin taps, halo, airtracks, and double backflips. Now, i finally learned my coffegrinders and how to worm. They took me forever to learn, almost 8 months!

Its not about how many moves you can do, its about style that makes you dope

Top marks for being eager 13 yr bboy - but a couple of points -

and please dont take this as any disrespect - it sounds like you're learning fast and that is definitely good.

when you jump through the gap between your arm and leg its a small part of the technique known as threading. LOBZ just posted a clip in the online battle section (check his gallery out) which will demonstrate some pretty sweet threading.

erm........main point - movelists. only noobies have move lists. nobody cares what is on your movelist. It amounts to nothing.
(see vice pres response)

a good bboy has combos and sets - not moves.......

how can i put it?

1) the moves are dinner ingredients.
2) the dancefloor is a plate
3) bboy respect is the customer in the restaurant

4) you have to learn how to cook. you never stop learning how to cook better. the ingredients must compliment each other.

chips with a roast turkey wold suck, but they are both good food. you should put roast potatoes and vegetables with turkey, as well as pigs in blankets and maybe a yorkshire pudding!

do you see my point?

There are some very discerning customers out there who arent interested in whats in the meal, they care how well it is designed and prepared and the overall flavour.

if you want someones opinion post a vid. My movelist would be HUGE if i mentioned all the moves, and styles of popping i have started learning. It doesnt mean im any good at them. In fact on the most part im not. ive bee ndoing footwork for 5 or 6 months....and i dont really do a straight 6 step anymore. im trying to learn my floorwork

4, 6 step......these are not separate moves. this is floorwork. It doesn't matter how many you can do its how you do them and put them together. Flow, in time with the music.

Most importantly - make up your own stuff too......
bboying is not about moves it is about style and character. Dont be confused by all those powermoves you will see flyig around - they are nothing without good toprock/floorrock. It is dancing, pure and simple.

Oh, and one final point - im sure a moderator will agree - dont post the same new thread in three sections! there are plenty to sort through as it is.

hope this helps - and keep bboying! try posting a clip - you may get flamed by some idiots but you'll also get constructive criticism which is good.

peace

mogwai

p.s. its not a moonwalk - popular misconception. its a backslide. moonwalking is a circular glide style.

pp.s heel-toe - i think you mean saccing - from sacramento california. May i recommend the Breakdance Step by Step DVD - zulugremlins masterclass would be invaluable to you. Christmas is coming.... bboy santa might be able to bust stars on your chimney pot

why have you posted 3 threads about the same thing, do u think my move list is good for two months. You only need one and it dosent matter if you can do it if you do it in away that puts everyone a sleep and i don't belive you can hold a hand stand for 35 seconds. But i cant hate on you for asking is your doing good for the amount of time you spent because i did the same thing. Just dont ask this question agin you already asked it three times maybe more i just havent seen them.

Find away to make your style into something new and you.
