basic regular 2 hand handstand - 10-01-2003, 09:18 PM

im a noob to bboying, im trying to do just a regular hand stand with 2 hands and i can barely do it if im lucky. I've been practicing for 2 days or so and i can only hold it for 2 secs or so "IF LUCKY". But about 1 handers, do u swing ur arms forward or do u swing them to the side? or do u do 2 hands and then let go of one?

i've seen some images and vids in the gallery section and most 1 hands arent meant to be straight, the body is a bit bent and to the side.

Is there any basic variations to doing handstands with 2 hands besides just having ur leg straight. I practice with my lil brother who is 10 and im 15, hes better then me and i give him tips on handstands from what i read from the forums. Hes lighter so im guessing thats why hes doing it easier, he can do scorpion while i can barely do a regular handstand with 2 hands.

I would suggest using a wall to get a better feeling as how to balance. About 1-handers, bring your hand to your side. The reason you always see 1-handers a little bent is because you must center your weight on your hand. Which means you must lean the other direction. It also helps to spread your legs in a 'V' for 1-handers because it helps distribute your weight.

About variations. Not much for 2 handers since both your hands are on the ground but here's a few.

You could 'scissor' your legs. That is, bend both your legs at the knee in a 90 degree angle, then spread them out front to back.

You could cross one of your legs over the other at the knee. That is, keep one leg straight, then bend the other one, turn it kinda sideways so the side of your foot is resting on the knee of the straight leg.

More advanced variations would be hollow-backs and hollow-inverts. But those are waaayy to advanced for you right now.

One more thing, younger kids are usually more flexible and probably can pull off things like handstands fairly easy.

its not about techniques on where u swing ur hands..its about how u are strong enough to carry yourself.
