yeah, knees to chest is good, also jog and run alot, will increase your legs strength which obviously helps in jumping.....

I find jumping squats with weights to be quite effective. This is a ballistic movement, and has the potential to cause injury. Just warm up with some light squats before attempting this exercise. Perform 2 sets of 15 to 20 repetitions per each movement. The weight one should use depends on the person and their physique. I myself use 65 to 70 pounds and am 5'8."

Squat - Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. With a barbell resting across your shoulders behind your neck, bend your knees until your thighs become parallel to the ground. Keep your back straight and heels on the floor. Return to the starting position.

Jumping Squat - Place a barbell across your shoulders and lower yourself into a standard squat. Putting a towel or padding along your shoulders helps minimizes shock from the jump. Once in the position, rise quickly and jump slightly.

To create additional muscle growth, use the Breathing Squat. This technique is exactly the same as a regular squat, except for your breathing. Take three deep breaths, and bring as much air into your lungs as possible. Hold the third breath and squat until your thighs are parallel to the ground, and come back up as hard and as fast as possible. DON'T JUMP, don't come up so hard that you create a jump. Right before your body comes to the standing position, exhale deeply. Take three more deep breaths and repeat. This exercise is incredibly difficult, but a fantastic exercise for leg muscles.

xu, that eye haunts my dreams.. seriously. - 07-30-2003, 06:38 PM

i strongly encourage caution when doing squats and especially jumping squats.

if you feel pain in your back, you should get one of those leather belts to keep your spine from getting hurt.

its perfectly safe most of the time, but still better safe then sorry

and also what may help you a ton that you dont realize it... your calf muscles

walk around on your toes, not like entirely, but so ur using your calf muscles.

brush your teeth each night standing on one foot with your foot extended so you are using your calf. then the next night switch. take showers only on your toes

several minutes of using the calf muscles will help a bunch

ankle weights, do it up. Just jump over stuff. Also toe raises. Because if your talking the basis of jumping as in tumbling. Its all about popping off your toes.

stand on a step (like stairs) with half your feet (front half on, back half off)
go up and down while keeping your balance. this works out your calves which is where you get most of your jumping power from.

has anyone ever heard of blocking? it may sound stupid, but it works... its where you transfer your horizontal energy (i.e. running foward) into vertical energy (i.e. jumping)... heres a link itll clearify everything. http://trickstutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205 just right click and press save as and download
