Unhappy Tips for handstand balance - 03-08-2003, 12:07 AM

Can some one give me any tips on holding handstands, i can only hold for like 5 seconds the most. I need to hold it longer so i can get longer 90's ect. any tips for balance

Someone told me that you should look either towards your front (ike you look while standing only in a handstand) or actually at the sky, or ceiling (it may sound like you'll lose balance easily but you'll hold it longer). Also if you feel like you're gonna fall foward try to push back, and try locking your shoulders, elbows, etc.

time and lots of practice.. to get them up into 20-30 seconds.

and for 90s its really not that necessary to be able to hold it that long.

never use a wall

just practise and practise it

its very easy but u need it for other moves like 1990s and skysrapers and even l kicks

Well when I try to handstand I kind of let my legs hang forward(not too much tho unless of course ur trying to hollowback!)...like umm let em hang to the way ur fingers are pointing...if u get what i mean...sorta like this:

Kind of like that...the underscore is ur hands and the diagonal asterixs are ur legs...The other asterixs are ur torso and arms.

EDIT: ARGH! It's not coming out as I want it to...well the vertical asterixz should be aligned with that line(the vertical one)and the "**" should be to the left more...

yea theres no tip really for handstands just practice but one thing i found that helps use ur fingertips and grips the floor if you understand that and don'tt ry to walk it just stay in one position

i just got my handstand.. the most i cld onli hold it for 5 seconds.. and i always lose my balance and land on my bum..how can i get s steady hand stand?

i know wut u mean
i used to do that too
its normal to keep balance

your going throught the phase where u depend on your legs to balance

the best way is to balance only with your hands, your legs should be in any position to do a handstand

cuz its a HANDstand, not leg stand or leg balance stand

use your fingers to help keep u from fallin... like if you feel like ur starting to fall use ur fingers to push u and stop u from fallin... lol .... im sure how to explain it very well... also keep ur elbows locked thas what i do anywayz.... hope this helps

I Find It The Easiest To Place Your Hands Almost As If A Diamond Shape(Shoulder Width Apart) Put Your Chin On Your Chest And Your Legs Strait And Leaning To The Sides Just Above Your Hands. If You Fall Forward Just Walk Forward On Your Hands. If You Do Get Stuck Bend Your Knees And Land In A Bridge Position.

One thing that always works is spread ya legs! That'll get you twice the time in balance.

actually practicing it, is one good way but honestly there is a proper way to use techniques in holding a handstand. I can hold one for like a minute straight. Its all about back/stomache positioning and finger/palm use. It takes time to understand the concept of properly holding a handstand. If done correctly it can be held forever till your arms give out, or you pass ou from blood rush to the head. When jumping up into your handstand its always a good habit to not let your back arch at all. Honestly save the back arching for hollows and stuff. Try to be in mostly a straight line dont let your legs flop over past your hands and shoulders, its a bad habit and looks ugly. By using your fingers as a balance and strength, as well as palms. Find that certain point where your barely rocking forward and back at all. Any slight tip forward can be corrected by the leverage of fingers to the ground pushing you back, and using a slight back arch and palms with save falling down early. If falling down normally (not rolling) flex the shoulders like a hollow and itll push you back forward. Maybe Ill make a video etc for this...hmmm
