Focus on hitting fast. Not fast as in quick succession, but as in getting in and out of the flex quickly. Try and spend very little time in the flex position, but at the same time pour some good power into it. That's what works for me, at least.

i watched the second video you put up. since you were running drills, i'll give you some pointers on that.

1) hitting: in the video you put up, you have your arm to your side to show your hit. in terms of showing us your hit, okay, that works for a video. but for running hit drills, put them ALL the way out. extend your arms as far as they can go, THEN hit.

see how much harder that is for you? if doing that is harder, that means you're doing it right. a lot of beginners such as yourself get caught up in getting their hit as strong as possible in a short amount of time, and will rely on the motion into the hit to get better. doing that will only handicap yourself, and the hit will look... unnatural.

extending your arms all the way forces you to rely solely on your MUSCLES for your hits, which is what your hits should be. and the strength of your hit is dependant on how QUICKLY your muscle can contract and then relax. so just relax, take your time, and practice a LOT.

2) waves: you're going to hear the word "isolation" until the last day you pop. waves need to be ISOLATED, in that, you must be able to control each individual joint (or "points" as you'll hear a lot) independantly from the adjacent ones.

try this: lay your arm flat on a table, and then try to hit the wave without having your entire arm shift backwards. end each point of the wave exactly where it was.

for smaller, "precision" style waves, turn your elbows.

PRACTICE TECHNIQUE: place your hands on the wall like you're going to push it and stand at a distance so your arms are fully outstretched.

turn your elbows inward so that the dimple faces up slightly, it shouldn't hurt and don't turn too much, just turn as your arms will allow.

when you practice your armwave again, instead of pushing your elbow up, turn your elbow. the sequence should be: fingers -> knuckles -> wrist -> elbow turn -> shoulder roll -> chest

for larger, deeper waves, do the elbow lift.

either way, practice! practice makes perfect.

Read the rules before you post, please.

about popping, and popping effect - 08-05-2008, 04:39 PM

i've read your question, and i think i understand your problem. you say that you need to understand everything with logic, befor you practice. you want to be sure to do something real and not to be in "trans" or in a "trip" while you are dancing. i think i am also very close of that behavier.
for your popping problem: what i know, or think to know ; ), is that you can compar popping with clapping. you pop the beat as you were claping it, i mean for the same reasons. now for your pop effect that you were asking, i think that every clap(now i mean the sound in the beat you should pop to), even if it doesnt seem to be like that in first hearing, they are all different. and you, while you are popping, you should try everytime, to simulate with your pop, as YOU were making this sound. you should be that good that you realy feel each clap with your pop, as even yourself is convinced that the sounds comes from your pop. and when you feel that, and you film yourself, believe me, your pop will look like those of onions.
it is realy important to feel the very clap your a popping to, cause if you dance like it is every time the same sounds, you are mostly off the beat, and your pops are not clean enough to get that very popping effect. you only get the shake effect as you would have spasm. like you said.
hope i helped.
