Exclamation Glides??? - 01-06-2006, 02:39 AM

Ok, i need a little help with glides, backslide(backglide, moonwalk)

I mostly need the help with the backslide, got it all down, lift the foot a little off the back and move it back right, the problem is, i look in the mirror, and when i do this the right way, the leg that floats back, doesn't look smooth, it just looks like i have lifted it off the ground and moving it back.

I've tried slowing it down, moving the foot alittle more to the ground where i can feel the shoe touch the floor alittle, yet the glide looks like i am just putting it back.

Any tips on how to make the blackslide look smooth, and not like i am lifting it off the ground?

I think maybe the problem is not your float foot but is the other foot. when you pull your left leg, your right leg have to lift higher and higher until you change the leg.
You can get a MJ video and play it slow when he comes to moonwalk.

You gotta actually apply pressure against the floor with your toes of the non-gliding foot, i got the feeling you aint doin that.

you gotta push off your non sliding foot with enough force to make the illusion work, i know people that were in the same predicament as you and i saw that this was their problem. and also you gotta isolate the area of the foot you are using to put pressure on so, you start putting pressure from your toes, then the balls of your toes, then the heel.
you get what im saying?

yes, i get you, but when i do that, my gliding foot, goes back too fast.

When i slide my foot against the ground it looks better, when i float the sliding foot, it looks like crap, no matter how hard i push on the other foot.

I think you've to learn how to balance when you put all of your weight on the non-gliding foot toe. When you backsliding, all of your weight need to be put on your non-gliding foot toe. When you slide, the non-gliding foot have to lift higher and higher. Both of your foot have to move. 1 foot slide and the other foot lift higher and higher with the toe.

If your glide looks better when you slide your foot across the ground, and looks like shit when you try 'floating' it, you can't balance your body on one foot on its toes no matter how much you think you can. Your glides look better when your sliding foot touches the ground because your losing balance on your toes and to make up for it, you wanna let your sliding foot slide across the ground. The key to glides is that ALL your weight has to be on the 'non sliding' toe foot because people don't expect your weight to be on it. Thats what draws the illusion that your 'gliding' across the ground. Once your able to keep your balance on just your toes your sliding foot obviously won't have to touch the ground and your glides will look better. It case you havn't gotten the point yet, ALL your weight goes on your toes. Hope you can understand everything I'm not the best at explaining things.

You can try to do backslide in slow motion. In Really slow!! I think this can help you to balance.
Once you can do it very stable(in a very slow motion), I think you're success.

Did you see the Mogwai's tutorial? You can learn side and back together. All of it depends on our balance skill. I think so.

Last 2 day i'd practiced gliding for 1 hour. I feel that not only the balance skill is important, weight transfering is important too. I think we can get a stronger leg after this.
