Guide: Strobing -
06-04-2005, 04:35 PM
Strobing- This is just syncronized dime stopping (a studden stop of movement) throughout your body. This means that when your head stops moving, your arm or whatever stops moving also, then the same for when you move, so that way if gives the effect that all of you is under the strobe.
How to work on Dimestopping- Work on dimestopping one body part at a time, so such as your arm, you would move your arm slowly, then come to a sudden stop, make sure your arm is not flexed, because when your under a strobe light you are not tense, and being under a strobe light is the effect your going for. Once you've stopped move then stop again, keep doing that, then once you get the sudden stop down with another body part work on stopping those two body parts at the same time, then the 3rd body part. If you legs take a lot longer to learn how to strobe, DO NOT BE SURPRISED, im still trying to get my legs to strobe, this takes good balance and control so be patient especailly with legs. The more you get down the sudden stop, make the stops more frequent, in my opinion the faster and CLEANER
Hints- be patient, this takes while to get down, so if you dont get in in the first 3months or so, keep working on it but don't stress. And dont forget to Relax, cuz the more relaxed you are the more it looks like a Strobe. I myself found it easier to get strobbing with the hands first, so when your in class, or wherever just work on strobbing your hands, if anything else it'll help make your brain understand what needs to be done.
EDIT: for all you people just getting Into popping, dont start off learning strobing first, learn the basics before learning how to strobe, if you work in progressional steps you'll progress better and faster, and not look like a Toy (poser).
Bboying is what you make it.

um......try working on strobbing arm waves, since there is the seqence, so when you go say from your going from your wrist to your elbow do it quickly then pause when your at your elbow, then go on quickly to your shoulder. So its just be pausing at each step, kinda like how you would've been when your first learning how to wave your arm, just more cleaner and faster, hopefully that makes sense.

Good concise explanation watashi - but one small thing.....
can u fix that typo please dude? its annoying me also its always better to post a clip of someone strobing to accompany - any chance? I'm not too bothered but it would help some of those who are new to the site, and to popping - I can do you a clip if necessary.

i dont really have any solid strobbing clips, basically that one with Elsewhere, but it would be good to have a clip with only strobbing so that way there isn't any guess what it is. And yeah, between me being rusty at it, and no digi cam i can't/shouldn't get one up

Its strobing, not strobbing. Strobbing reminds me of throbbing which reminds me of.......ok, just spell it right please.

cool, thanks man, but how about moving your arms around in general? i know how to strobe the arms in a wave like motion, but i mean like strobing any normal gesture w/ your arms.

just practice dimestopping, so for when your reaching for a soda, pause on the way to get the soda and back, and just doing everyday things when your not in a hurry, if you are in a hurry, then just grab the soda and book it, cuz working on strobbing and getting things done......kinda makes it take longer as you will find out.
