question that NEEDS an answer - 06-04-2005, 02:40 AM

hey yall.

i started ground move practice about a couple weeks ago. but lately my knees have been killing me.

i read on an earlier post that popping seems to have no physical damage to the body, so i assume i'm doing it wrong, unless i simply have bad knees.

question: is there a very specific way to do ground moves?

for the sake of my knees, i REALLY hope that i've been doing them WRONG.

and if i have been, please educate my newb-ness.

just so i dont veer to far from subject: if there's any pointers y'all know in terms of ground moves (as in how to do them safely) do tell, or what kind of moves, because for all ive seen, is the spin with the knees, R2D2, and a leg-sweep thing.

groundmoves are very angle oriented, if u have those perfect angles, then you shouldn't be hurt at all

^^Actually Rice, even with perfect angles you can still damage your knees if you try it on an extreme instance. That's why you have to build up an immunity in them...like for me, I'm able to jump and drop right onto my knees (Unless I do it like 5 times in a row...then it just kills) because I've done a lot of that type...my floorwork in bboying is largely based on the knees.

Check out my first audio freestyle, and second audio.... Drop some feed, I'm still learnin'!

so in essence, i just practice till the pain goes away? cuz im not getting muscle pain, this is like, joint pain.

or do i practice w/kneepads?

or if its the angle thing that rice said, explain what a perfect angle might be? cause if i dont kno what it is, ill have no idea what to practice.

so i have one question outa the way, there IS a way to do it.

now: how might i go about it without any pain?

right now, im using my ghetto knee-pads solution (a.k.a. taping up my knees) but that only works for rugburns, i still feel the pain in the joints

jus try after a nice long session or practice, icing them down really good 20 min on and 20 min off for like an hour make them numb as hell then try it again

Keep practicin.
The more you do it the better, the more it hurts the better.
The nerves will eventually die.
Just like my shins.

Well, the nerves don't die...but the sensation definitely decreases.

Proper angles: Find a spot on your knees on which you can rest comfortably (With little to no pressure felt) and utilize this position as much as possible.

so in essence..... practice till pain goes away? or i'll eventually just pick up what to do?

because ground moves are rather sexy, and i'd like to know how to do them, but if there is a guideline, like, the NOT to do 45degree angle, that would be great.

from what i've gathered, just practice in non-painful to not so painful positions, nd just practice till that pain goes away?

confused

CROWDPLEASER...
First thing is STRETCH A LOT.
Dance a bit to warm up the muscles. Then when warmed up, like at the end of a practice... work on stretching into certain postitions... like a sitting W...
Also work on boogaloo shootdowns. When you can comfortably get into positions on the ground like a W when stretced properly... u'll be ok.

Otherwise... you can have SERIOUS knee problems from ground moves.
