Basic Locking Stuff - 05-16-2005, 12:16 AM

Basic things first...

You keep your arms to your sides at all times, or, most of the time haha...

Practice twirling your wrist and also twirling your forearm while at it.

Bob your whole upper body to the beat very funkily!!!

Clap your handss!!! No not like you're in an audience, clap under your knees, behind your back, ect ect ect

Point point POINT! Point to your sides, at a random direction.

Lock yourself into a stance while dancing, then DANCE again!

Do the lock.... Stick your hands out and in to the beat but stay at your sides!

Keep it funky...... Don't be afraid to do ANYTHING!

actually in my opinion this is a good guide, cuz as far as i can see somebody please correct me if i am wrong, and if i am, i'll delete this post) that locking just as the basic movements then you just build off of those few things and do whatever you can to the same flow.

Bboying is what you make it.

nice guide...but a true dancer could already realize that. The clapping part just comes naturally...i mean for me it does.

Good guide, but you forgot a few points -

1) move around as much as you can, work the floor. Work it baby!

2) Locking has powermoves, similiar to suicides, and it also has james browns of course.

3) Also remember the looks, when you point, you can also look (just turn your head) in that direction, but in the way a startled cartoon character might look - really make your facial expression bold, poke your eyes out real far, open them real wide etc.

Finally:

SMILE!!!!!

and beware the Chain Reaction locking style. Logics (4/4 based it seems) etc.

In my humblest but honest opinion, they know not of the funk.

finally - you can't learn locking form this thread - buy a dvd - buy skeeter rabbits DVD - ive got it and its great.
