thanks - 10-20-2004, 01:04 PM

I'm glad that people can use this guide to help with their dancing.
I have not been online for a while due to my lady passing from
Asthma. I've been mostly offline trying to deal with my kids. I will continue to support the site, because Popping is something I enjoy doing. I will look over the article when I get time to see if I can add more to this article.

Nice guide for waving, it was a very nice article. Now we need people to write about other aspect of Popping. I'm sure in time we will have a very complete guide for Popping.

OK, this looks like the first critical review of your guide so far - sorry for that. I think it's great that you're trying to write a (free) guide, but I personally could not understand what you were trying to say. And I'm not talking about petty grammatical nit-picking. Some snippets:

This is basically devoid of any details whatsoever. As others mentioned, you should post a video; a (moving) picture is worth a thousand words, after all. However, that adage also suggests that it's not impossible to write everything out in a bit of English. I found Guide: Basic Waving by Danis Kool (http://www.bboy.org/t57470/s.html) to be more helpful, despite the absence of any video or images. (OK, fine - he had three ASCII diagrams, but I think it's safe to say they were pretty unnecessary.)

Quote:
Side Step: When you step side way, here a little example: take your right leg and step cross your left leg and move your body to the left with a skip like motion. Your step side way with your right leg and then you skip back with your left leg. It looks like you are walking side way, and you hit while in the transition of the step.
Here you have details, but lack clarity. When I step across my left leg, am I supposed to bring my right foot in front of my left leg, or behind it? Can you elaborate on "skip-like motion"? And so forth....

In general, I think you misadvertised this guide. You spend most of it talking about how to put all these different moves together, but the problem is that your audience (people who from 101 know only how to "hit") have no idea how to pull off those moves in the first place. Wouldn't teaching these moves themselves (in clear, detailed prose or using videos) be a better "102"?

Thanks for hearing me in. I'm not trying to discourage you, by any means - contrarily, I hope this can help you revise this review and crank out better ones.

Thanks for the reply regarding the popping 102. I never completed this guide, and I do agree that I do need to add more detail for each moves.

Twist-O-Flex: The basic concept of the twist-O-Flex is to twist your upper body and your lower body will follow it. The twist-O-Flex is a spinning move. Think of yourself spinning your whole body in one direction. Start off just spinning your whole body together (spinning your whole body as one, similar to a toy spinning top). Let focus on on the basic concept of the Twist-O-Flex, you are spinning and turning your body.

The Twist-O-Flex could be done in 360 degree spins, 180 degree spins, and 90 degree spins. It's best starting off learning the 90 degrees spins. Lets Stand still with your whole body facing position number one (this is the starting point, I'm going to call this position number one)., move your arms and the upper section of your body 90 degrees to the right. You want to make sure that your shoulders are completely facing 90 degrees from position number one.

Your legs should still be in position number one. Your upper body should be in position number two (that is 90 degrees from position number one.)
Now we are going to move our lower part of the body to position number two. Your upper part of your body and lower part of your body are both in position number two.

Your head should still be at postion number one. This is the final part of the spin. You move your head to position number two. This completed the transition of the spin from position number one too position number two. Now you want to continue this spin. With the 90 degree spins, there are four positional spots, each 90 degrees away from the other. Each position number your want to spin upper body first, then lower body and bring the head to that position.

You could hit at each transition to each positions. So this is how it will go, move upper body to position number three. Every part of you body that you twist over to the position number three, flex it. You twist and you flex, you twist and you flex. It's a twist and flex spin.

You should practice this concept before you move to the 180 degree spins or 360 degree spins. There are different types of flexs. This is the basic concept of the flex. I hope this is a little more clear and understanding. If you have any questions just reply to this post. I will write something regarding the Side step later. I'm a little busy right now.
