Locking problems -
08-17-2008, 01:16 PM
Hey, I'm new here and I'm a beginner to locking. Ive been trying to learn some basic moves and yea. Well the moves looks OK when i do it....individually....well I'm not trying to say its perfect or anything, because i just started and i do understand i need to practice everyday in order to improve....
But here's my problem. I can't do the moves continuously with other moves. I can't go from one move to another. i can't be spontaneous . like..i will get stuck like....err what next?....ok i'll do a scoobot...ok done...what next??? There's no flow in my locking. So what can i do to overcome this problem? Thanks in advance! |

Just practice connecting moves together in a very simple sequence to 4 counts
e.g. 1st 4 count: point, point, up-and-lock 2nd 4 count: open - cross - roll - clap (scoobot) 3rd 4 count: point, point, up-and-lock this will get your body and brain used to linking moves together. be kind and patient with yourself.... these things take time. once you got it, make yourself up another combo. |

When you're starting don't worry too much about what's coming next. Once you can freestyle a bit without any set routines you'll start to link the moves up nicer, just concentrate on finishing each move you do while you think of what to do next.
You can't really do wrong it's not like there are rules prohibiting one move being linked to another! |

This one is for kshen: Pretty much all has been said"Practice." But also, freestyle without looking at a mirror or anything, and don't think about what your going to do next, let it flow.
This one is for lok3rzNObu: Do you mean it just seems sloppy or somethin'? Or you don't feel like your doing it right? Post a vid maybe. |

Alright, I'll try and give you some advice, n0bu. Even though I've deproved like crazy.
Basically, what you wanna do it practice to a slow song with a hard snare. Go slow at first. Start counting the 1,2,3,4 counts. On every 2 and 4, explode the shit out of your lock. Or maybe just on the 4th counts. But make sure you try and make it as tight as is physically possible for you. If you get better, lock once every beat, and then twice every beat. But make sure it's tight. Basically, this is the way I practice my locks and my points, and it's never failed me. All it takes is time. |
