technique, groove, and character -

So to spark some locking discussion, i just wanted to post this question that i've been thinking of lately.
I have now traveled to three different states to lock, ny, nj, and cali. At each one the people lock tremendously differently. It becomes easy to see what each state (obviously generalizing here) places as their priority in importance when it comes to technique, character, and groove. From what i have perceived, cali stands by technique before the other two, new york goes by creativity/character first, and new jersey claims to be all about the groove. Which one do you think is important to you? what do you follow and why do you belivee in that?
as for my answer:
I like to believe that technique comes first above all things. Without correct technique and a rocky foundation, i believe its hard to advance yourself from basic locking to advance combos and movements. Also, i feel like even if you are ridiculously creative and have amazing musicality and can come up with amazing combos, someone who is equally as creative but also has correct technique would best you if you met. However, when i met up with some ny heads they told quite a different story. I was told that if one worries TOO much about technique then that will limit ones creativity. From what i've gathered the loss of technique was necessary to advance locking further into the newer age. I disagree, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion ;D
