Half split move.. -
12-12-2007, 03:54 PM
Dont know where to post this but..
Im interested in learning the move where u jump, land in the half split and ..slide back up on your feet. I can do a jump and land in the splits, btu cant do the slide back up part of it. Any steps on how to do it? I just dont get it. I swear you need a frictionless floor, but the nagain.. ive seen ppl do it anywhere. anything helps! thanks! |

It's a two point rise, and you need to have decent inner thigh/groin strength, and calf strength.
You basically squeeze your thighs together back to a standing position, at the same time using your heels to pull you up. I guess it'll make sense if you keep trying different methods. Keep practicing! |

hats what i thought it was .. I always seem to find that the floor is way too sticky to do it though.
I guess that comes from the lack of leg strength :P |

It's a lot of strength and a lot of momentum. It'll take a little while for you to get it.
Avoid doing stuff on carpet, too, if your leg catches the carpet wrong you could be out of commission for a while. |

To compensate for lack of leg strength try this: when you drop down, lean your upper body forward slightly towards your straight leg, and as you hit the ground try to bounce a little, you can use both hands to spring back up and as you do this lean your upper body back as far as you can. this will give your upper body momentum while springing upwarp back onto your feet. Also, you don't need to spring up into full standing position, just keep practicing and do what i told you. its a move that takes a little balls, and kneepads!!! Lockers don't forget to wear kneepads if you want to avoid surgery in 5-10 years. Granted you can do half-splits without bumping your knee, but this is usually unrealistic while learning the move in the beginning.
Also remember to stretch a lot, its easy to pull muscles attempting this, just get comfortable in the dropped position before getting silly with it. Also, don't try jumping into the air at first, simply kick, drop and spring up. |

This move is hard. One of the moves I haven't got down yet probably because I'm a little heavy. I'm doing stretches now though.

its easier to practice if youve got a softer mat. anything hard will damage your knees, unless there is another technique. im too use to this full drop so anything newer is goin to be abit complicated.

mr gold is right. don't jump up (as I did when i pulled my right hamstring last week - ouch) - even though you might be going up a bit, it adds so much more impact coming down. i'm out of action dancing-wise from it.
On the other hand, here's a clip of the Berry Brothers doing the half-split after jumping from a balcony... YouTube - Berry Brothers Dance Act |
