secondly make use of all your space
a lot of people practice locking in front of the mirror..that is ok to see how to further develop your lock...but locking is a 3d dance..you get down in a circle so make use of the entire area around you....look around, etc

thirdly as for music.....you still need to be in the music as much as any popper has to be....if not more so
you have to dissect each song you hear and listen for different instruments....horns, drums, guitar, vocals they all combine to give different levels of a song...you may not have to be on beat to the drum for a whole song but you still have to be in tune with the music....it has to become a part of you as if you are showing physically what the music portrays auditorily
i have to agree with that. i learned locking by watching other people on videos. then i found out about the fantastic poppers and got licorice lloyd's vid he said something similar in it.

Wow, thanks Al-rock for the history on Locking and the website with it!

Hm.. I should change my "tips" thing to go with that, that's some stuff a lot of us probably didnt' know! HIstory we all should know....

I'ma change my attitude towards locking now... it's not just SOME dance that started..... it's a life and culture!

cool i might make one soon. better one this time but it will take a while so don't expect it to be done in a day like my last(which was horrid). hey kobansora maybe we could combine both of our things. like the history-tips-and a video. just a thought. in my vid ill be talking about the history and some other things you need to know to be a good locker.

Hey all

Ive been really interested in lockn ever since i started breakin 2 years ago. Ive been practicing on and off for a while but really havent fully got into it because i herad that there are some rules about the move and how they are done. Just wondering if that is true. Also that histroy about lockin was really good cos i rekon that it really give u an insite to the way that locking should be done. it was an excellent read.

Im really lookin forward to this tutorial cos i have looked every where for a decent one but i just havent found one that explains how the move is meant to be done and the effects it's meant to have.

One last thing i thing. i think that not knowing all the moves does not that big a deal cos in my opinion if you can do all the moves that u kno really cleanly and can lock them really well it is goin to look a lot better then if you try and do more complicated moves and you dont do them well.

any way i'll be around and im really happy that there there is finally a forum just for lockin.

Lockin hasnt been looking very intresting to me so far. ive seen videos and such but i havent been that intrested. but sometimes it actually does seem pretty cool. but i havent had any good enough inspiration to start learning it. i pop. i dont lock. anybody have any good reasons to why i should start learning how to lock?

The greatest. Strive to be perfect. and the greatest. wont stop. until they are. that is the difference between normal people and great people.

it will help you develop your character....locking is a very creative dance and when you learn how to do it you have the opportunity to be something you cant normally be...like a cartoon character or even a super hero!
a lot of the moves today in locking like stop n gos, the whichaway and even the volkswagon have some comedic background whether it be imitating a cartoon character or imitating something comical in real life

Scramblelock, i was wondering if you thought that Locking should be placed under the newer term of Funk Styles? Since Funk styles generally just means the styles of Popping, and since Locking isn't near any of those styles.

Bboying is what you make it.

hahaha actually popping is somewhat the spawn of locking.....
boogaloo sam started out as a locker but then changed it up a bit and developed his own style....remember the electric boogaloos were first known as the electronic boogaloo lockers!

so in essence i guess you could call it part of the funk styles umbrella....but it would be neat to have a separate locking forum....

^^Learn something new every day...I knew Sam locked, but I didn't know that.

If you guys want, I can pitch the idea of a locking subforum to Tane. Gimme a shout back if you're interested.

Check out my first audio freestyle, and second audio.... Drop some feed, I'm still learnin'!

I Personally think Locking should be thought of seperatly from Popping, but im a newb to the max at it, so who knows.

Bboying is what you make it.
